requested:Your commute!
I fully intended to take the photos for this this morning anyway, before I even knew my 'commute' was going to be unusual.
The commute really started at 6.30 in the morning, when I was woken up by the following text message from
TfL travel alerts:
"Adverse weather conditions" could mean anything from the wrong sort of leaves on the line, to... well this:
This is the view from my window at 7.15, when I finally made it out of bed. Forty five minutes later, covered in layers and definitiely with my waterproof if uncomfortable shoes, I was ready to brave the snow. Fortunately, the snow was fluffy even when compacted, so there was no slushy slip hazards. It's just cold, and very pretty. I thought memories of snowfall like this from the 80s was just my imagination.
Southgate Station is one of those really sexy artdeco thirties style stations, and is unusually attractive even when it's not Hallmark weather.
Inside was a different story, however, as the foyer was filled with people just milling around, waiting for something to happen. It turns out that there are no trains at all this far East, and weren't most of the morning so most people were dealing with this by standing around on a wet floor, apparently waiting for the snow to melt or something.
Not really feeling like waiting in the crowd, I wandered around to the bus stop, only to find out that there were no buses at all on the roads, and wasn't likely to be:
At that point, I went home.
