Linkspam: More gender stuff

Aug 07, 2008 16:24

I don't know if I'm getting more obsessed with sexuality and gender, or because that's where the interesting discussions and posts appear to be happening in my corners of the internet, or what, but my del.icio.us account is still full of equality stuff. I know it's International Blog Against Racism Week, but I'm very much an intersectionalist at the moment, so I feel I'm justified by covering gender and sexuality -related topics as well. After all, you've all already seen the Paris Hilton response to McCain comparing her to Barack Obama, so here's the embedded video of the Day:

I don't know why I feel the need to add but some of those films were made ages ago! I guess it's the 'action/being' dichotomy- just because Disney movies have shown problemmatic portrayals of race, it doesn't mean that Disney is the big evil tool-of-the-Man that some people like to claim it is. Hat-tip for that vid, by the way, goes to Feministing; and you might also want to see the video embedded there about the portrayal of masculinity in Disney.

Two more blog posts:
 - In which a cis feminist has a serious and long overdue rethink. - I do feel that by linking this I'm indulging in privileged cis-feminist backslapping here, but I think the attempt to look past one's privilege is an important one.
- Are you wearing your Feminist Lesbian uniform? Oh come on, you know you want to play Mock the Misogynist.

And finally, with a hat-tip to
the SoozA Straight Person's Guide To Gay Etiquette. There's a lot of good reading here, but obviously feel free to ignore rules of etiquette around me at your own discretion. Particularly the ones about not inviting me to showers, or anything that involves alcohol.
