Glee Rewatch 2014: Love, Love, Love

Nov 28, 2014 15:39

Things that happened:
  • Rachel's made it pretty far in the auditioning process, but her producers are worried that she's too green for the part. Thinking that she's lost her chance, she takes a job at Santana's workplace, the Spotlight Diner. They have hot uniforms. She runs into the producers there and makes sure that they know what a huge opportunity they missed. And then she and Santana have to go back to Lima because of THINGS that are HAPPENING.
  • Whatever has been going on between Artie and Kitty has finally blossomed into an actual romance. At first, Kitty wants to keep it on the down low to protect her reputation (read: there's a new Cheerio named Bree nipping at her heels), but after some meddling from Tina, they go public.
  • The boys have decided that Tina has sort of turned into a tyrant. To lift her spirits, they agreed to give her the opportunity to go to prom with any one of them. She chooses Sam.
  • Kurt and Blaine have a chat during a picnic, and they decide to give each other another chance. Thank fuck. And, because who the hell does things slow anyway, Blaine is still totally on track with his marriage plans. He recruits basically the entirety of Ohio to help out with the surprise proposal.
  • Only, Kurt actually already knows about the proposal, and he's not so sure. But then the whole thing actually happens, and it's magical, and. Well. Klaine are officially engaged.
  • (!!!!!!!)
Sporadic thoughts while watching:
1. Loove, loooove, loooove.
2. I love Rachel's coat. The use of colour in this episode is fantastic - so joyful.
3. Okay, so one of the guest stars is from Twilight as the dad vampire, right? I have no idea who the other one is.
4. "Too young, too green." A very valid point, and one that I honestly wish the show had stood by.
5. Yesterday is bittersweet. It's a nod to episodes to come of course, considering the recent affairs of the time, but also to the past with the references to Sardi's and the bridge and the bubbles.
6. Beatles! Possibly the first tribute episode since Gaga that modern teenagers would actually be interested in? ("Seriously, can anyone still relate to the Beatles?" "Pretty much the entire world.")
7. "This school year seems like it is never ending."
8. You know, Artie really has had a lot of love interests. Tina, Sugar, Brittany, Betty, Becky, Kitty. (Woooow, Artie kind of has a type, huh?)
9. Drive My Car is so monotone. I just can't like it.
10. The girls' work uniforms are gorgeous. And yay, college students actually working to earn a living like any other person would do! I wonder how long Santana has been working at the diner for? Fairly recently, since she had the cage dancing job something around 417/418. Also, I like that she clearly knows what she's doing. Santana may be a bitch, but she's has the control to act like a professional when need be.
11. Kurt! Hello, baby!
12. The colour in this scene makes me so happy. Joy and loudness and expression. Yes.
13. I really wish we could have actually seen the conversation in which they worked out where everything went wrong last season, but at least we know that it actually happened?
14. Also, bye Adam.
15. "I'm gonna need you to sign one of those non-cheating contracts. You can get one on Oprah's website."
16. I love that Kurt is at the point where he can be so playful with Blaine again. Look at him teasing. <3
17. "...which is why I prepared something." THE LITTLE SNEAK PLANNED FOR THIS MOMENT RIGHT FROM THE START.
18. That moment when he almost runs into the band, like, 'Okay, here we go - OH WAIT, my bad, sorry, okay pretend I'm leading them, this was so planned, good save Hummel.' I love hiiiiiiim.
19. The joy and play in this song puts it so far up on my favourites list.
20. EEEEEEEE.
21. (Remember when Blaine didn't want to kiss Kurt in public after he got his flowers? Well now they orchestrate a whole performance leading up to it and they get applauded.)
22. Manny Pedi, heh heh heh.
23. "Our hands are tied, Mr Figgins." HA.
24. Artie and Kitty's second duet is better. Not amazing, but better.
25. Blaine looks like Shaggy in that outfit. And I love the parallels to the Help! video clip that the Beatles did - especially the moment with the Warblers in the phone booths. (They have payphone booths at Dalton. Why? Who fucking knows.)
26. Tina is so freaking pretty with her hair done like that. Mnnnggg.
27. For the record, I still have problems with the fact that Rachel got this role because she essentially threw a hissy in the middle of the diner. Much like she did when she messed up her NYADA audition. It would have been great if she actually learnt from this moment and did better at her next audition, you know? There would have been other chances to audition for Fanny.
28. Imagine waiting in high heels. Office jobs are fine, but waitresses are on their feet for SEVEN HOURS during their shift, maybe with a half hour break. I wore flats when I waited, and my feet killed me at the end of every shift. I feel bad for Santana and Dani and Rachel.
29. They just... left the diner in the middle of their shift...?
30. "Those cakes are truly awesome." "Dude, those cakes are moist and chocolatey at the same time." "Totally." "*high five*" I love their dynamic so much.
31. Blaine is so done.
32. Jesus fuck why. That meat is disgusting.
33. "And I will refer to her as my Beckretary."
34. Black John Lennon.
35. Marley is hysterical throughout the number. And that's coming from someone who normally rolls their eyes when the show brings out the fangirl thing.
36. Blainey, you are so cute.
37. So Kurt already knew about the proposal. Two things - firstly, OF COURSE HE KNEW, I mean, come on Blaine, you wanted it to be 'top secret' and then you recruited HALF OF OHIO TO HELP YOU.
38. But secondly and more importantly, I definitely had my issues with the idea of the proposal at first. They're really very young, of course, and Blaine kept trying to frame it as a political statement which isn't really a good idea to marry someone, and when this first came up they weren't even a couple. But also, surprise proposals in front of tonnes of people are never really good ideas. They leave the suprisee feeling pressured to say yes to spare the surpriser the humiliation of being turned down in front of everyone. Which Blaine clearly didn't think about, being the idyllic wide eyed dreamer that he is. So it was a very smart move of the writers to side step that pothole by having Kurt figure it out and have time to think about it first.
39. "He makes me feel so connected and safe and loved." Loved is an obvious word to use, but safe and connected are interesting. When Kurt and Blaine first met, Kurt's predominant situation was one of terror and isolation.
40. The lighting of this scene is beyond gorgeous. Kurt is stunning.
41. "All you gotta say is yes, no, or maybe." "Is there another option?"
42. Kurt and Blaine are wearing complementary colours. God, I love the costume designers.
43. Awwww, Santana has become one of his girls. <3
44. Kurt is so taken aback by the whole thing. He knew that Blaine was proposing, but he had no idea that it was going to be like this. (And god if this isn't the thing he's been dreaming of his entire life...)
45. And when Blaine appears in his yellow suit among all those people in red, all I see are the red and yellow flowers that symbolise so much of their relationship.
46. [resists quoting the entire speech]
47. Blaine talks so much about soulmates and peripheral concepts like fate and destiny. It's my personal belief that Kurt isn't much into those sorts of things (he does love romance, but he's a realist at heart), but it's the way Blaine says it that truly gets to him. So genuine, without even a trace of guile or conceit. This is how Blaine loves, right to his core, and that's what Kurt is seeing.
48. "Our hands were meant to hold each other's, fearlessly and forever." Oh, god.
49. "All I want to do - all I've ever wanted to do - is spend my life loving you."
50. Blaine is so utterly fearless in this scene. Maybe it's just the adrenaline, but he's not scared in this scene, not at all. He just wants the whole world to know that he loves Kurt, and what's so scary about that? (Kurt, for his part, is near hyperventilating.)
51. WEEEEEEEEEEEE.
52. (I broke fifty points! Been a while since I did that.)
