Things that happened:
- Rachel has a second callback for Funny Girl. Cassie finds out and at first she's all bitchy about it, but then she turns face and congratulates Rachel after all. Turns out her bitch act has always been about pushing Rachel to be better. Whatever.
- Kurt is going back to Lima for test results for his dad's cancer, and he's getting pretty panicked about the whole thing. He needs some help to get his anxiety back on track, but it turns out that there's no reason to be worried, because Burt is in remission. Yay, Burt!
- Mercedes and Mike are back in town to help the team prepare for Regionals. Mercedes has a record deal and has been laying down tracks, but she's fighting with her producers over the cover art. She decides that she would rather be authentic than cheap, so she gets dropped from the label and decides to do her own thing.
- Artie has been accepted into Brooklyn Film Academy but isn't going because his mum is freaked out. Kitty finds out and doesn't think it's fair, so she pushes and turns out that his mum is totally on board - it's actually Artie that's scared. Anyway, point is, Artie's going to New York.
- Gay marriage in New York has been recently validated and Blaine is pretty excited. He's apparently forgotten all about his crush on Sam, because he's decided that he wants to propose to Kurt. Burt doesn't think it's a good idea, but Blaine is feeling stubborn, so he plans to do it anyway.
Sporadic thoughts while watching:
1. It's been a while since we had a good episode...
2. "You were the one that put that all together, so." Actually, the whole reason that Don't Stop Believin' happened was because Will was leaving and the kids came together despite that. It literally happened in spite of Will.
3. So Kurt has canon OCD. I need to talk about that more later on. It manifests itself in ritualistic behaviour and superstitious feelings. Kurt strikes me as a pragmatic person, so I doubt that he actually believes that wearing light blue socks will effect the results of the tests, but one of the worst things about OCD is that the person knows that what they're doing is irrational - but they can't help it anyway.
4. "Don't worry, we're not hooking up this time." Not that any of us were worried, but you're right Kurt, you don't hook up with him. You just get engaged instead.
5. This is my favourite Kitty solo - she sounds great. (It... is her first solo, actually, I think.)
6. T: And what are you here to lecture us about, Kurt, our horrible taste in fashion? K: My dad has cancer. B: Thanks, Tina.
7. Nice pants, Kurt. No really. Good god, they are tight.
8. "By the way, you look cute today. And I mean, like, dirty cute." Smooth as a porcupine.
9. So besides rituals, Kurt's OCD is also showing itself in control - in this case, organising sugar packets for no discernible reason. And guess who notices? Blaine.
10. I don't know when Rachel got so tan. Wow.
11. There is no way it's a coincidence that they're doing Superstition, considering Kurt's recent behaviour.
12. I like how the whole song is just one big jam.
13. Eee, Blaine chasing Kurt around the circle.
14. "Dark is close to black and we all know what black means - "
15. "Having old people sex with Carole!"
16. (I don't even have the energy to be irritated with how useless this plotline ended up being. Also, Finn's absence is noted.)
17. Awww, Burt always used to sing this song to him. That is beyond adorable.
18. Look at my silly, happy baby and his under-rehearsed ladies. (I love how he's ordering them around throughout the song. They totally spent fifteen minutes on the routine before the performance.)
19. I love that he needs help getting up because he slides so low to the ground at the end.
20. I try to not apply realism to Glee as much as possible because it's just a fruitless endeavour, but god, Cassie irritates me purely for the fact that her teaching methods are BEYOND unrealistic.
21. Kurt looks like Peter Pan in that hat. Also, he has moths on his shirt.
22. "And if you ever imply again that I'm an old hag, I'm gonna tip you over."
23. The whole Cassie thing is such bullshit. Like, she's basically the female version of Snape for the entire season and then at the end she does a face turn and suddenly everything is alright? Yeah, right.
24. Ah, sweet idealistic Blaine. Buddy, you're not even a couple with Kurt right now. What makes you think that proposing to him is a good idea?
25. Interesting that Burt brings up the difference between marrying a person and marrying an idea. Here, he's talking about the fact that Blaine wants to take advantage of the new legalisation, but there really are so many people who enter and stay in relationships with people that only exist in their head.
26. "When two people love each other like you two do, everything works out."
27. "Well, that was because of his abs." "Oh, but yours are so much better!" Julyberry eclipses Brochel, for the record.
28. Kurt knows full well that Blaine wasn't going to ask him to stick around for Regionals. He has no idea about the proposal, obviously, but I personally think that he thought Blaine was going to ask him on a date. And you know what? He was totally open to the idea.
29. "You had to know I would have said yes, right?" See?
30. "With you in it, a wonderful life." ;_;
31. Ryan Murphy wanted a tribute to orange... hence the colour scheme of this number...
32. You know what I just realised? All of the songs in this episode are solos. That's weird.
33. Look at Kurt's smiles throughout the song. <3
