Po-Land (part 1)

Mar 12, 2007 08:58

Sooooo, this is my first entry since my arrival into Po-Land. Bear with me.

(For anyone who doesn't know this by now, and still reads my journal, I am studying abroad in Warsaw, Poland for an entire semester.)

...ok, everyone caught up?
good!

I honestly don't know where to start. I've been here for about 3 weeks now, and I already feel like I belong here. Getting adjusted was hard as shit, but after that initial awkwardness of being the new foreigner, I don't really feel out of place anymore. The hardest part about this is being so far away from my friends. I can't even make outgoing calls on my Polish cell-phone without it costing a pretty penny. I have to wait for people, like my parents, to call me. Soon I'm going to get this program on my computer that can make calls directly to cell-phones, in the states, for practically nothing.

School is pretty sweet, too. Pretty much anybody who is intelligent speaks English (everyone at the School of Architecture here). There is so much work to do for classes, but it's very rewarding.

The land of CHEEP transportation:
We get everywhere by train, bus, subway, or electric train cars (called Trams). You can get a three month pass, useful for all of these, for around 30 bucks. No paying for gas here, bitches! The only downside is that most of these reek of B.O. hooray!

The land of BEAUTIFUL women:
OH MY GOD! They are everywhere! The women, around my age, are very intelligent and equally beautiful. I met someone, too! We went on one date (ice skating) that didn't go so well (things that were not under my control), but the situation is looking up. She is so polite, intelligent, and pretty. She likes me a lot, too. :) I hope things work out!

This past weekend was awesome!! Our exchange group went into the mountains to ski. The view was INDESCRIBABLE! The tallest slope I went on took 20 min to get down. I have tons of pictures that I need to put online, but there are already some pictures on facebook.

I will keep posting updates about my experiences. Comment if you care.
