Is there a question as to Ozymandias's sexuality? I just assumed he was gay!

The bit that sealed my dislike was (guess) that freaky, overlong sex scene set to Hallelujah. WHY.

WHY indeed. I burst out laughing during that scene then spent two days shaking my head over it.

- I really kinda wanted the movie to be about the Minutemen, instead of the Watchmen. Seriously, those credits were COOL.

YES. *draws hearts around the Minutemen* Of course, they have some pretty massive issues with them (and there are gay male superheroes among that group, but I'm not sure you want spoilers?), but the parts of the graphic novel that describe them are my favorite bits.

Then again, I like Dan and Laurie. Especially Dan. They're... well-meaning, if sad and kind of stupid. I like well-meaning people.

Deuce explained all the Minutemen stuff to me, and then I did kind of a speed-read skim of the book. ::totally fails at comics in all possible ways:: Which just makes me want the Minutemen movie MORE.

For me the stupid and whiny outweighed the well-meaning. But I am a crankypants, 'tis true.

I don't know that I hate Dan and Laurie, but the sex scene to Hallelujah was completely uncalled for. As was the whole Flight of the Valkeries in Vietnam sequence. Some of the musical choices were excellent (I LOVED the credits), and some were appalling.

I'm pretty sure Ozymandias is supposed to be gay, but he isn't the *only* one in the book. They just left out the backstory of some of the other Minutemen. I'm more forgiving of the fact that the villain is gay when Hooded Justice is gay too.

Did you read Veidt as gay in the book? I don't remember because it's been a while -- I wasn't sure if he was just supposed to be pretty and vaguely asexual, but I don't remember anything explicit beyond Rorschach's "possibly homosexual" observation. The movie made it clear we were supposed to see him as gay and kind of lecherous -- though if we're supposed to see it as a BAD thing, I don't agree. Honestly, thinking that he keeps his porn on his desktop right next to his world domination plans, makes me like him even more.

Also, in 1985, not even the smartest man in the world knew about secure passwords.

I did read Veidt as gay in the book, though now that I'm thinking about it I don't think it's ever explicit, though I think the subtext is fairly heavy.

I did wonder about the password thing. Ramses II just seems too easy.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I feel like Dan & Laurie are supposed to seem kind of lame in the book. It endears them to me in the way that dorky past-their-prime C-grade superheroes can and I kind of love them for it. I think if I didn't have that feeling and saw them first in the movie, I would probably agree. But we'll see, maybe they'll be so lame in the movie - and I have heard about the Hallelujah thing - that it'll color my view of them from the book.

I saw the movie on Friday, and while I had to cover my eyes in some especially violent scenes, I really liked it. Also, the soundtrack was pretty awesome.

that freaky, overlong sex scene set to Hallelujah.
That scene made me giggle more than anything else. Patrick Wilson does have a nice ass, though. And it's even nicer when it's moving.

They could have cut half an hour to forty-five minutes of Dr. Manhattan monologing. WHY.
I think most of the time that Dr. Manhattan spent monologing, I spent staring at his penis, because I was so impressed that it was actually there, and not just hinted at, like I'd expected.

Ozymandias was just such a FAILBOAT. He was an adorable, pose-y idiot and I wanted to pet him.He was so cute! I know he was supposed to be the bad guy, but although I didn't approve of him killing thousands of people, I couldn't really stay mad at him ( ... )
