The robot unicorn's memories had always lived here in this land of rainbows and purple plateaus. This is where the journey to dreams begins.
There are always -- always -- strangers, all reacting to the scenery and the robot unicorn with varying levels of disbelief. The latest stranger to this land is a boy who says he's from Shibuya and as always -- always -- the robot unicorn feels something move in its mechanical heart. Lowering its head to allow the boy to touch its metal face and rainbow mane in wonder, the robot unicorn pushes its muzzle into the boy's tiny hands and feels its heart overwhelmed with a need to be with this boy. Its mind fills with thoughts of living in harmony with this boy and it's nothing but love that spurs the robot unicorn ask the boy what his dream is.
He hesitates, like he's unsure of whether he's supposed to answer truthfully or whether he's supposed to answer with something the robot unicorn wants to hear. But the robot unicorn waits patiently, and knows that for some reason strangers feel no shame in tellling it their deepest desires. The boy wraps his arms around the unicorn's head in an awkward hug and presses his face against its metal one, saying quietly, "I want something interesting to happen." He quickly added, "Back home in Shibuya."
The words flow easily from the robot unicorn and it begins its run with the boy riding on its back, metal hooves trailing sparkles as it ran. But the journey is cut short when the robot unicorn slips and its hooves struggle to find purchase on the cliff that looms before it. As the robot unicorn falls, the boy's dreams are dashed against the rocks below...
The robot unicorn doesn't ask questions; it only tries to fulfill dreams.
So when a woman wearing a helmet with cat ears holds up device that reads 「I want to find my head 」, the robot unicorn simply lowers its head and allows her to climb onto its back. The robot unicorn runs faster and faster, eager for the woman to realise her dream as quickly as possible. But it's too hasty and doesn't see the wall before its too late. Even as it loses its head, all the robot unicorn can think of is how the woman's dreams did not come true, and tears leak from its eyes.
Sometimes there are voices.
Voices that whisper encouragement as it begins its run -- Follow your heart! Chase your dreams! Shoot for the moon! -- but as it comes closer to realising the dreams of its rider, those words turn sour -- Failure is inevitable! A fiery death awaits you! You will fail! -- as if their owners believe the robot unicorn is here in vain.
But all the robot unicorn wants is for its rider's dreams to come true, and keeps galloping.
This one wants to live in peace. There is no conflict in this land, only faeries bobbing in place and dolphins emerging to play alongside them, but he doesn't want to stay for some reason. The robot unicorn doesn't understand, but doesn't question him. It sees a star and wonders if that's where his dream is. It realises too late that stars don't contain dreams, but because it sees no sign of the man, the robot unicorn wonders if the man had become a star...
The robot unicorn never considers stopping. Its dream is for the strangers to this land achieve theirs. And when yet another stranger climbs onto its back, it whinnies and runs again, the same words always echoing in its head as it trails rainbows and sparkles.
