Summertime Rolls

Roller Derby

I absolutely loved the tournament and was shocked to find it was an actual game with proper rules and proved incredibly addictive. The crowd was composed of the beautiful and the damned; a little bit punk rock, a tad alternative and very, very keen on their roller derby. I was thrilled to see the Mums and Dads dutifully watching their daughters beat up other girls on wheels from the balconies.

I would join them in a flash if I wasn't so prone to breaking bones. I simply can't afford any time off work. How boringly conservative and old am I getting? I realise some would insert sensible in there somewhere but I point blank refuse to own that one.

A dodgy comedy/web based word show as part of the The London Word Festival saw me on the guest list the Sunday night and I dragged fechtbuch out of the sunniest Sunday afternoon ever and into the shambollic dark and dreary club environs which housed the 'show'. It rambled on slowly for a few hours and we jetted well before it ended. Such a shame as the concept had potential but I couldn't believe that a technology driven event hadn't even tested their equipment.

Between weekends, I've been swatting away at my temp job. We moved offices and I'm now sitting in the executive area in a sort of Secretarial pool. I have to confess I don't love that and would prefer to be back in our old own space but what ho, it's not really my job so I'm just going to grin and bear it while it lasts :) I still love my boss and the company as a whole though so that's all ace.

The weekend just gone saw me loitering about the towpath chopping wood and planting more seeds. I'm ridiculously hopeful that we will eventually get sunshine. I wandered up to Broadway Market with Catina on Saturday before we slumped infront of a DVD with cupcakes and well before I bussed across the city to visit with Alex, Don and Andrew for the regular Saturday night babysitting and mail collection.

Sunday we pushed ahead with a summer picnic and found ourselves tucked into the boat around a roaring fire laughing at the stupidy of British weather. I had a really nice time and it was nice to see my Renegade chums even if the sun wouldn't comply. We persisted with Pimms and Summer BBQ crisps while renaming the fire 'the artificial sun'. It worked well I think and was super grand that baby Andrew managed to be the best behaved baby in the world ever. Well done team.

I have a head cold which is driving me to despair as it's not enough to knock me out but enough to have me vague, drowsy and cranky (some would say my resting state but I notice a difference hah hah).

Almost forgot to thank the Universe for the excellently well timed mountain of carpentry offcuts I found in the bin area minutes after having moaned about running out of kindling. Ex-O-lent.
