Okay, so I FINALLY finished Metal Gear Solid 2, and it was the most HEART-TOUCHING//INSPIRATIONAL//AMAZING video game ending EVER! ^__^
...DON'T LAUGH AT ME!!
My original copy of Sons of Liberty (I know, I know; I don't have the special edition -- please don't rub it in my face like all the other people I've talked to who finished MGS2
), which was my little brother's before I claimed it as my own, would only get so far into that black army guy's speech about Metal Gear RAY and then it'd black out and not let me go any further regardless whether I played it on the PS2 or the PS3 (I tried both, trust me; usually PS1/PS2 games that won't play on the PS2 will work when cleaned off and played in our PS3 [our NOW UBER RARE copy of the now no-longer-in-print Official U.S. Playstation Magazine's PS1 demo disc from issue 18 worked in it -- it's THAT good!
] ).
I've concluded that this error/glitch was caused by all the scratches on the game disk that I'm assuming were received from poor treatment by my little brother and whoever owned it before him (seeing as I'm pretty sure it was used when he got it). I just recently had enough money to buy another copy of Sons of Liberty from the local GameStop (actually, they had more than one copy there in the "UNDER $10" pile) , and I'm so happy I did!
(This one even came with the game manual - YAY!
)

NOTE: It took me awhile, but I managed to find the footage I was looking for on YouTube.
The real "Snake speech" (that's words are below) starts around 2:50 into the video and ends around 4:40. The whole video's worth watching (even if you didn't get to watch it while playing the game, which is even better because you'll understand everything so much better), trust me.
Raiden: Who am I really...
Snake: No one quite knows who or what they are.
The memories you have and the role you were assigned are burdens you had to carry. It doesn't matter if they were real or not. That's never the point.
There's no such thing in the world as absolute reality.
Most of what they call real is actually fiction.
What you think you see is only as real as your brain tells you it is.
Raiden: Then, what am I supposed to believe in?
What am I going to leave behind when I'm through?
Snake: We can tell other people about -- having faith.
What we had faith in.
What we found important enough to fight for.
It's not whether you were right or wrong,
but how much faith you were willing to have, that decides the future.
The Patriots are a kind of ongoing fiction too, come to think of it....
Raiden: ...
Snake: Listen,
don't obsess over words so much.
Find the meaning behind the words, then decide.
You can find your own name.
And your own future...
Raiden: Decide for myself...?
Snake: And whatever you choose will be you.
Raiden: I don't know if I can...
Snake: I know you didn't have much in terms of choices this time.
But everything you felt, thought about during this mission is yours.
And what you decide to do with them is your choice...
Raiden: You mean start over?
Snake: Yeah, a clean slate.
A new name, new memories.
Choose your own legacy.
It's for you to decide.
It's up to you.

SOME OTHER SEGMENTS I LOVE from the ending:
Snake: We've inherited freedom from all of those who've fought for it.
We all have the freedom to spread the word.
(The following is in the video above from appox. 9:15 to 9:52)
Raiden: I think I've found something to pass along to the future.
Rose: What?
Raiden: He said all living things want their genes to live on...
But genes aren't the only thing you pass on.
There are too many things that aren't written into our DNA.
It's up to us to teach that to our children.
Rose: What kind of things?
Raiden: About the environment, our ideas, our culture...
poetry...
compassion...
sorrow... joy...
We'll tell them everything... together.

NOTE: The following is taken from the footage following the credits. In accordance with this video, the following starts at 7:20 and ends at 8:30 ...
Sorry it's so far into the video; I couldn't find another one. >__<" If your internet is good at loading videos and you have the time to skip through the uber long credits, I'd recommend watching this little segment as well.... In fact, I found this particular segment even MORE touching than the previous ones!
Snake: Life isn't just about passing on your genes.
We can leave behind much more than just DNA.
Through speech, music, literature, and movies...
what we've seen, heard, felt
...anger, joy and sorrow...
these are the things I will pass on.
That's what I live for.
We need to pass the torch, and let our children read our messy and sad story by its light.
We have all the magic of the digital age to do that with.
The human race will probably come to an end some time, and new species may rule over this planet.
Earth may not be forever,
but we still have the responsibility to leave what traces of life we can.
Building the future and keeping the past alive are one and the same thing.
