Fic meme day 1
Absolutely am 110% in love with BBC's Sherlock: Holmes/Watson modern day AU complete with sound and moving pictures. No thoughts more coherent than that to share right now, just flailing.
I'm going to try the 30 day fic meme thingy because
phineasjones makes it look fun. Not that I can actually promise 30 days of anything resembling follow-through or stick-to-itiveness.
Day 01: A fic with a great opening
I think that in general, AUs have the best openings; they have to set up everything in one scene, all the world-building, everyone in their new roles, and it's beautiful. But I'm going to have to go with Phin here and kick us off with an SGA fic, and it's not an AU, just another regular day on Atlantis:
"Okay, whoops," John said, just after Rodney turned into a dolphin.
cesperanza's The Wheel, Atlantis, Wars, And So On. Because nothing opens fic like Rodney turning into a dolphin, making "Eeep!" noises, and wriggling off into the ocean.

Tuesdays were finger-painting days. Frank made sure to wear his oldest pair of jeans, because even with his full-length apron and his constant reminders that paint belongs on paper and not on clothing, he always ended up with tiny, multi-colored handprints all over his clothes. There wasn't a thing he could do about it, so he just wore pants from 1995.
"Mister Frank!" Antonio said, holding up his painting. "I drew a shark!"
Antonio's shark looked kind of like a purple slug, with weird orange growths coming out of its head. "It's beautiful," Frank said.
"It's not beautiful! It's scary! He was swimming out to sea and the man came and it eated him," Antonio said.
"You're right," Frank said. "It's beautiful and scary."

The rain was still drumming away on the fabric, everything was wet, the hunt had turned into a mess and they'd lost three separate deer, and two of his knights had twisted their ankles and needed to be supported limping back into camp in an embarrassingly undignified way.
He only meant to complain; you didn't take serving girls on hunting trips, and the alternative interpretation didn't even occur to him until Merlin said indignantly, "I'm not going to do that!"
