I preface this all with the fact I am not a die-hard fan of the Batman franchise. Why yes, I was quite raised with Burton's imagining and it influenced me much. I survived the 90's incarnations, with some high and low moments.
I had loved Nolan's work in 'Memento' before he got hold of the franchise. I do appreciate the intelligence and canniness he brought to the series, but I feel like so many people are wrapped up in what they believe is super cerebral film-making, when it's really just high polish high octane popcorn.
I am sorry this film is now synonymous with the wacko shooting up people in the Colorado theater. Undeserved.
I have NO idea if the films influenced the kid or not. It shouldn't matter, though people can read into if they care to.
Republicans, Democrats, conspiracy theorists, economy experts, rich and poor can read what they want from this series, and they have.
I like my comic book movies more on the 'Hellboy' level, weirder and wilder.
Truly, even though I like my cinema dark, intense, and realistic, I have a deeper joy with 'Avengers'. Maybe it's sillier and fluffier, or maybe I think ScarJo is hotter looking in skin-tight black.
The actors make the film, even though Morgan Freeman can phone his performance in and Michael Caine could make reading a phone book interesting. Gary Oldman is a chameleon, and turns in such a nuanced touching turn as the world weary good cop. Bale does his job, I finally gelled more with his accent this time. Hathway is cat like, all purrs and rubs one moment, running and clawing the next. Collitard is just one of the hottest ladies alive. Gordon-Levitt is a bit over-eager, like a collie just itching to get going. But he works, good twist for him that is wisely left for the last frame. ;-)
Why give LIam Neeson and Cillian Murphy CAMEOS?! Neeson is the voice and face with grace, man. A few more moments of his character, please.
Cillian, bless you laddie. Scarecrow is clearly becoming more unhinged by the day..... so give him more screentime!
Tom Hardy is a presence in and of himself. The first time I saw 'Inception' he stood out in his first few scenes. I swear, there is something physical, even in a business suit, that he has like a lion. Not just big (actually, he's not much taller than me) but psychologically, he projects that air of 'Under my stillness, I can be pretty ferocious'. .That works for Bane, and he is a real gorilla. Kudos to also moving like a real boxer.
But THE MASK..... why? I know, there's dozens of great performances turned in with faces covered totally......
Yet I never connected true villainy with that mask, it blocked too much for me. Have Bats rip it off for just a few seconds at the end to show a tortured scarred soul, why not?
And why cover up the sexiest smile in the film?
A big like for me was the women of this film; Katie Holms was a feather weight in the first film. Maggie Gyllenhal was such an improvement for the second film, she's as cute as a bug (and such a neat actress to watch), but it's sad her character got offed.
In this film, we get two sexy yet intelligent ladies, and the film never seems to condescend to them.
Hathway is surreally beautiful but kicks it high and hard.
There are twists, most of them I saw coming.
All in all, fans and haters are quibbling over the the finer details, and I could go on myself.
I was happy the film wrapped up the series, and it deserves a peaceful ending after all it put us through.
And we WANT that; the series to end and Wayne to be happy and find a gal just right for him.
I came away much more satisfied than 'Prometheus' (which i never dreamed I would be saying!) and will quite eagerly see it again.
But Iwould much rather see 'Avenegers' at the moment. ;-)

Other notes;
- Freaking love the motorbike.
- Did I see LitttleFinger on the plane in the beginning? Something in the smile...
- Bane looks and sounds like the Humungous from 'Road Warrior'.... but he's going to be Mad Max?
- If you fell a distance with a non-springing rope around your middle, you would need more than a crusty witch doctor to get you back together, man. >>
- Anne, how can you walk in those heels?
- Matthew Modine, looking older. My family made some furniture for the guy, I can tell you the Architectural Digest magazine to see it in. ;-)
- Oh yeah, did I say give Liam Neeson and Cillian Murphy more screen time, please?
- The film should have mentioned Joker. Yes, they were being polite, but for gods sake, that is why everyone remembered the last film and he got the Oscar for it. No shame in dropping the name once, man.
