Since my post burning man entry the waters at the Rivie residence have been somewhat calm. Ok not too calm, but still I am feeling re-energized, and happy. This past weekend I went clubbin at MILK. A hip hop club in the Haight. It was fun, the music was cool, despite the Djs awkward mixes. I was with Desmond, Tony, and Shannon. Although Tony was expecting an ass shakin pussy poppin experience. MILK is more of a college age, white, "I gotta get drunk to dance" kinda place. While we were there this guy comes and sits next to me. White guy late 20s. So we talk about hip hop, the artists we both like, where we are from; The usual gettin to know you conversation.
He says, "Yea man, I live in Berkeley,, there are more girls in Berkeley,."
I say, "Right on" and nod my head in agreement
He says, "So where do you hang out to meet girls."
Proud of my butchness, I say," I wouldn't know man. I'm gay."
And usually at this point the straight guys say cool and excuse themselves out of fear that I am going to spooge all over their forehead. (which has happened on occasion).
However this dude says,"Cool. So you got a lot of options living here in the city....must be nice."
He stayed talking to me throughout the night. I even got a pound when I left. Its is times like this that I have hope for the world. I know I am in San Francisco. A very liberal place. But this strait dude was cool with me. We chilled and listened to some hip hop. No judgments, no attitude. Was just a cool experience. I love this town.
So the next night Tony, Edwin, David, and I headed out for MEAT. A weekly dance party at The Stud. Probably one of the few gay clubs that I go to these days. I am a picky mother fucker about music. And to be honest i am tired of all that circuit shit that most large gay clubs play. However MEAT offers an alternative to that, so I dig it. But this night there was some fundraiser going on.....fucking fundraiser...I wanted to shake my ass. And we had just finished smokin a fat one, so I was a bit leary to drive, but we headed to the Castro to bar hop. We only hopped to one bar 440 Castro (aka Daddys) It was adorable to see Ed and David make googly eyes, and occasionally kiss eachother. Made me happy to see my buddy having a good time, but reminded me how much I miss all that stuff in my life...but I digress. After people watching we decided that due to slim pickins ,and a strong case of the munchies, we would eat and call it a night. After being a piglet at Sliders I drove home and crashed.
The next day was a busy one. I woke up late, with just enough time to shower and head over to the Scotts house for the final post Burning Man breakdown/clean up. Was cool to see my camp mates from the playa. However, it is always weird seeing people outside the context of burning man. The experience changes people...for the good. Anyways after the clean up I went home, showered and smoked several bowls. Tony came over, and we smoked a few more, then we were off to a house party. The party took place at this awesome vicotrian house in the mission. I have been invited to this party for the past two years and have missed it, due to scheduling and horrible hang overs, However I made it this year, and I was glad I did. Saw many familiar faces. The three hosts (which are all terribly handsome men) were very welcoming and accommodating. So the drinks were flowing along with conversation. It was good times. I saw the very handsome guy who kissed me on the playa. He gave me another kiss which was very, very nice. Damn he is a hottie. Then, my friends Micheal and Puppy showed up. These boys crack me up!! Fuck, they both are so funny. So after several beers with them we headed to SoMa for a few more beers. After hitting the Eagle and Hole in the Wall I was pooped so I drove back to my house and called it a night.
Overall my weekend was famous! Good Times, friends, music, booze and pot. I cant complain too much. So my return to work was a bit stifling. (people in crisis, reports due, grants to write.... yada yada yada.....) So I wasnt that happy to be back on the grind, but my co-workers make my job tolerable. So it wasnt that bad. I am gonna stop here, believe me there is more to write, but I will save that for tomorrow or the next day. I will leave you with this:
"Depend not on another, but lean instead on thyself...True happiness is born of self-reliance."
