This is for all my friends who've had a bad day, a bad week or anything else that left them bummed out and in need of comfort. Please enjoy.

Keep It Precious

By the time she got her hands on her key she was already trembling. A drop of rain slipped past her collar and down her back, gliding along her spine like a lover's most intimate caress. She did not even notice.

Oishi Megumi wasn't just wet. She was soaked to her underwear and was starting to doubt how waterproof her skin itself really was. One might feel inclined to wonder why she would even be out and about in this kind of awful weather, desperately clinging to a torn paper bag filled with groceries. The city was receiving a rather intense beating with wind aiding the heavy rain in coming from all sides at once and all the while rendering umbrellas completely useless. Megumi was very obviously not dressed for this sort of weather, although this was not owed to a lack of consideration on her part. She blamed it on the car, really. After she had dropped Hiroki off for a sleepover and had bought all the groceries she needed for the weekend, her car quite spectacularly failed to drive all the way back home. It died in the middle of nowhere. Or rather: In a usually crowded area that was abandoned due to weather in which no sane person would be outside.

At this point there would have been several options. She could have called Hideto, even though he was at the studio and would probably not be back until late at night or the next day. But Megumi was loathe to disturb him when he worked, for she knew he'd just drop everything to pick her up. It wasn't something she wanted to make him do. Besides, a dig into her purse had revealed the cellphone nowhere to be found. Her guess was that it sat on the living room table, warm and comfortable and not missing her a bit.

She could have called a taxi. Her reason for not doing so... well, if the cellphone was not going to materialize out of thin air for the one and only Hyde, it most certainly would not do so for a mere taxi. Walking back to the store so as to make that call was no option either - she was actually closer to home already.

Waiting in the car until the rain lessened did not even cross her mind. It had been raining for two days now without any indication of sunshine. The forecast wasn't all too optimistic either, and Megumi figured that as much as Hideto could lose himself in his music, he would still miss her if she went missing for that long. She had the groceries with her, after all, and food was as important to Hyde as air. Not that it ever showed on the tiny bastard's body. She remembered him claiming her favourite pair of jeans the second pregnancy had made it impossible for her to keep wearing. Though the fact that he kept tripping on seams that were the perfect length for her more than made up for that injustice.

Later she could not tell exactly what madness had possessed her to try and carry the shopping bags through the downpour instead of leaving them in the trunk to be picked up later. Nevertheless, she attempted it and thus walked through the rain with them.

It proved to be a very stupid idea, naturally.

Not only did the bags soak through as badly as herself, but one ripped, spilled its contents all over the sidewalk and then proceeded to glare at her in silent accusation. At this point, Megumi was close to tears and cursed herself softly.

The trembling didn't start until she fumbled for her keys though. Standing still made her all the more aware of the cold wind biting her wet body, making a chill creep over her. It took her too long to get the keys inside the lock and make it through the door. The door shut behind her and she lacked the energy to wonder why the lights were on in the hallways. She only knew that she was dripping a little puddle on the floor as she dropped the bags rather unceremoniously.

Trembling even more she slipped out of her shoes, pushed them to the side and turned around. A fluffy towel wrapped itself around her along with strong, warm arms. “Megu...” And then, for a while, there were no more words, because he kissed her ever so softly. Megumi wouldn't ask why he was back already, how he could hug her like that when it meant his own clothes would be soaked, too, how he always knew just what to do to warm her up from the inside.

When they parted, there was the softest smile dancing upon Hyde's lips. “Why don't you go and take a bath, precious? Leave dinner to me.” Before he pulled back entirely he nuzzled her cheek and tightened his hold on her for a moment. The smile on his face was sunlight breaking through heavy rainclouds.

“You just want to order take-out” she accused, but there was amusement dancing in her voice.

Hyde just winked. “As I said: Leave dinner to me.” Not accepting any further discussion on the point he picked up the drenched shopping bags and wandered in the direction of their kitchen. Silently she wished him luck in trying to save the groceries from drowning. But right now the prospect of a hot bath sounded far more inviting then worrying about her shoppings.

When she finally slid into the hot water, her eyes immediately drifted close. This was exactly what she had needed, just a hot bath to soothe away every tiny little detail that had gone wrong today. Some peace and quite, just relaxing and soaking and beign far removed from the world.

Naturally, Hideto walked into the bathroom just then, receiver in one hand and a book in the other. He always called it his recipe collection with a pout. She would never dream of calling it anything but the encyclopedia of take-out restaurants even remotely touching upon their district. “What do you want to eat?”

Megumi was amused more than anything as he sat down on the tub's rim and reached into the water to trail his fingertips up and down her side. She refrained from pointing out that he was getting his sleeve soaked through. “You know very well what I enjoy eating, love. You just needed an excuse to come in here and have a peek.”

“I'm shocked that you would think of me like that, even if it's completely true.” With a warm chuckle he put the phone and the book well out of any immediate danger from bathwater and dipped the second hand into the tub. “Is it so bad that I wanted to see you?”

“You see me all the time though.” With a gentle smile she reached up to touch his face, marveling at the emotions she could see glowing in his eyes.

Hyde chuckled again. “Not in the bathtub, though.”

At this, Megumi laughed, all tension from her day so far forgotten in favor of simply being. This was what made life so worthwhile. “You can see me in the bathtub all the time, Hideto.”

“No, this is different.” Slowly he edged closer, carefully balancing on the tub's rim. In answer to her unspoken question he elaborated: “This time I got to make up an excuse for barging in on a sexy girl lounging in my bathtub.”

Her hand had found his collar by now and she was pulling very gently, mischief sparkling in her own dark eyes. “Actually, the bathtub is mine. I paid for it, remember?”

“You just have to ruin all my fun, right?”

They both laughed softly at this. Megumi's pull got just slightly more insistent. For a while Hideto was resisting, and then he gave in and slid into the tub with his wife, fully clothed where she was naked, smiling broadly where she was glowing from the inside. As their lips met, Megumi decided it could very well rain more often. After all, days like these kept their marriage all the more precious.

“Hey, Megu. If it's your bathtub - do you want to barge in on a sexy girl in here, too? Because I wouldn't mind watching, you know.”

Days like these and her husband's unfailing ability to make her mind trip over itself, to be more precise.

That night they did not leave the bathtub even when the water had long cooled off.

However, after not even an hour they came to the quiet understanding that they were, in fact, in dire need of a bigger tub.
