Summary: Hyukjae and Kibum face off over a human they both want
Hyukjae crossed his arms, his jaw clenching and his body tensing as he heard the other come to land right next to him. He did not have to turn to see Kibum gracefully folding the long, sinewy, leathery black wings behind him. He did not have to look at Kibum to know there was a smirk on his face. Out of habit, Hyukjae stepped away, his nostrils filled with the stinging scent of brimstone. He grimaced and refused to acknowledge the other’s arrival.
“Are you still here?” Kibum snorted, laughing at the way Hyukjae’s eyes flashed angrily. “Pathetic.”
“Go away, Kibum. You’re not supposed to be here.”
“I don’t follow rules, haven’t you figured that out by now?” Kibum smirked, his feet making no sound on the carpet as he walked towards the sleeping human. He leaned over, his eyes roving over the length of Donghae’s body with obvious desire. Hyukjae bristled like an angry cat.
“Step away from him, you filthy demon.” Hyukjae snarled.
“And if I don’t?” Kibum purred, his fingers reaching out to hover inches above Donghae’s forehead. The human slept on, unaware of the ancient battle between Angels and Demons being played out in his bedroom.
“I’ll fill this room so full of light that you’ll burn. Again.” Hyukjae said, his voice filled with icy warning. Kibum made a face and pulled his hand away. He’d been burned by the angel’s fierce light before and had no desire to repeat it.
“So touchy.” Kibum murmured, longing to stroke his fingers over the human’s skin, longed to mark him in ways that only angels or demons could see. He knew that doing such a thing would cause the Angel unending pain. The idea delighted him. “Do you love him?” he taunted, looking back at Hyukjae, who was beginning to slowly grow brighter in warning, anger flashing in his eyes.
“You don’t know what love is.” Hyukjae said, his voice cold with distaste. “Love is purer than lust. It always has been and it always will be. He’ll know the difference.”
“We’ll see, won’t we?” Kibum smirked again. Then without warning, the pointed lash of his tail sliced through the air like a snake, striking hard and cutting a jagged edge along Hyukjae’s cheek. A river of pure crimson appeared on the angel’s pale skin, but it vanished in seconds. Hyukjae turned angrily to retaliate, but Kibum was gone, leaving behind only a mocking laugh and the stench of brimstone.
Hyukjae shuddered and looked back at his human. He was peaceful and beautiful in his innocence. No matter how badly Hyukjae wanted to warn him against the demon that would try to seduce him, he could not. The rules were clear. Donghae had been given free will. All Hyukjae could do now was trust that Donghae would make the right choice.
He stretched out his wings and sighed, hoping the human was strong enough to resist the temptation.
