Sometimes it's dangerous to work in a library. There's too much to set a spark and then go flyin'.
Today I have thought/read about:
* Political novels. Did a display of them (from an internet list), but most are so old the covers are ridiculously unappealing. Any recommendations of newer titles?
* Sri Lanka. I ran across mention of a Sri Lankan short story writer. (I didn't know Ondaatje hailed from there.) I read several sites and articles about the country, wanted to see more pictures, a documentary, wondered if it was stable enough to visit now ... .
* The dynamics between Doms and Doms or Subs and Subs in BDSM circles. What happens when a dom spies a dom and wants to dom him in that dom-my way? Is there just a chuckle around identity politics where each says "can't do you" (like "sorry, I'm a top") and they walk away? Or do they have vanilla sex? Or do they compromise in some really interesting way? I wonder even about social interaction among similars: Do they compete? Over-complexifying, I know, but I am curious about any small detail.
* Jan Morris. Formerly James. A British historian/travel writer/novelist whose career apparently did not suffer much at all after having her sex change operation in -- I'm assuming -- the early 1970s. Her autobiography about the change is called "Conundrum". Why have I never heard of her? She has an entry in "English Writers" for Godesque's sake! She is cross-listed under both names in our catalog!
