The end of the weekend

Continuing to work on an outline. Very slowly. I'm trying to avoid the things I've really disliked about the stories I've read in the slush. Like waiting too long to get to the story. Like lame secret organizations that routinely put the uber-brilliant people in charge in danger. Like favoring Message or Theme over plot and characterization.

My current quandary is how old to make the main character. Perhaps college-age in a time when going to college wasn't the norm? (The story is currently set sometime in the 30s or 40s.)

Saw The Girl Who Played With Fire over the weekend. It felt like a piece of a story rather than a whole story, but it was still interesting. I don't know why they're bothering to make an Americanized version of the series. Apparently, Americans need things dumbed down? Or can't read subtitles? Anyway, I'll be reading the book as soon as I'm done with the current book(s).

Mike made it to Duluth, Minnesota, from Bangor, Maine, in his new (used) car. He'll be back home Tuesday or Wednesday. Needs must get the house cleaned up before then. :-) I made a batch of raspberry jam on Friday, and the counters are still covered with (clean) cooking utensils that need to be put away.

Project "Read All Them Books!" continues apace. Of course, I'm still mostly reading library books, but still...

Finished: Evil at Heart by Chelsea Cain (stretched my credibility a bit too far) and White Sands, Red Menace by Ellen Klages (interesting look at the period right after WWII ended)
Currently listening: Firestarter by Stephen King (woo!)
Currently reading: And Then We came to the End by Joshua Ferris (for the office book club) and The Curator of Silence by Jude Nutter

Pandora love:
Editors - Papillon
Janelle Monae - Cold War
