sick bay report

Oh joy and tidings of great good gladness, for The Galloping Yick is galloping around my house!

Andrew had it late last week and over the weekend, but ploughed through it with lots of cough drops, ibuprofen, and Mucinex, and other than skipping 4 karate sessions in a row he seems to have survived it - without even missing a day of school.

On the other hand, Steve appears to have caught it sometime after he got back from Norway Friday night, and since he's running a fever I'm betting against him going to work tomorrow..

I, for some incomprehensible reason, do not seem to have contracted it.  Allergies are kicking my ass, but that's mainly just itchiness and tiredness, with sniffles and mood swings - not a 101F fever and body aches and laryngitis and hacking a lung out.  For which, yes, I do give thanks.

Tomorrow I have an orthodontist appointment, during which I will get Rubber Bands, yay woo.  Perhaps I can learn how to fire them in self-defense.  Could be more effective than pepper spray.

(I wonder what color I should get?  Will they offer me a rainbow palette?  That would be cool - I could change them to match my mood, or my outfit, or to do chakra work.)

Also, Cow!Cat is now taking antibiotics twice daily for what could be an upper respiratory infection, could be a bad tooth, or could be a case of ringworm.  I noticed a weird sore hairless patch on the corner of his mouth on Thursday, on the same side pf his face where he's had a runny eye forever. But it's kind of hard to get him diagnosed in his current semi-wild state.  I took in a small  tuft of fur  that he had  shed - not the first time I've found a little tuft on the floor with some skin holding it together -  on the odd chance that it might show if he has any skin infection or fungal infection, but nothing conclusive was gleaned from that. For all I know, it's just a bit of scab from one of his tomcatting adventures.

The antibiotic should clear up the runny eye, at least, and I'll feel better about having taken care of that long-term problem.  If it doesn't do the job on the mouth sore as well, we may wind up giving him kitty sedatives in his food, pouring his limp self into a carrier, and taking him to the vet for more thorough medical analysis (and, conveniently enough, the booster shots he should have.)

Never a dull moment, I tell you.
