Our client is a leading worldwide software company in applications for mobile professionals, as well for education and individuals. The company is based in USA, and has offices in London, England; St. Petersburg, Russia; Kharkiv, Ukraine; Pune, India; and Seoul, Korea.
Our client is mainly focused on development and maintaining applications for various mobile devices, including iPhones, iPads, Nokia.
Role
The firm is looking for a Director of Engineering who can manage company's software development team in St. Petersburg.
The Director of Engineering will have to build, mentor and lead a team to architect and create Company’s next generation of mobile office software. This is a senior management position reporting to the Vice President of Engineering.
The Director of Engineering will act as an interface between Company’s development team and Product Management, from project inception to delivery and all the way through post ship maintenance and support. The Director of Engineering will manage multiple complex projects throughout the entire project lifecycle and will have a broad range of responsibility.
The position will be based in Company’s St. Petersburg, Russia office. However, travel to customer’s locations in the US, Europe and Asia as well as trips to some other development locations may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
• Recruit and lead a team of world-class engineers
• Develop and promote best practices in software development
• Plan product releases and deliver to agreed-upon schedule
• Evolve company strategy and culture with other executives
• Establish and implement a continuous improvement process
• Accurately estimate, establish, report on and deliver to an agreed-upon project schedule

He/she, must also be up to date on technology, constantly pushing to excel; striving to be the best in the industry, reading and learning about new process, techniques and best practices not only at work, but also as a hobby and passion. The company wants someone that is a mentor to others and accepted “go to person” for process improvement.
The successful candidate must be inspiring technical leader with a passion for building great products, a deep understanding of software architecture, and a proven track record of implementing processes and tools that help teams succeed.
To be successful, the ideal candidate must be able to lead in a fast paced, dynamic environment; be very organized, analytical, and have the ability to multi-task, build relationships, problem solve and communicate effectively.
The Director of Engineering must have a strong entrepreneurial streak, and a passion for building companies and cultures. The successful candidate have either started (or have considered starting) its own company as a technical founder, but is more interested in the prospect of a similar early stage opportunity with the team, product, and financing already in place.
The successful candidate must stay abreast of the latest technologies and best practices, and know what to apply and when to do it. He/she is still capable coder, but also a talented manager and leader, passionate about solving hard problems. The candidate must have built many large scale desktop or mobile projects and is comfortable with complex problems, have a history of recruiting high-performing technical teams and fostering their growth (preferably in a startup environment). The Director of Engineering must inspire people to do their best work.
Profile
In respect of the candidate profile:
• Russian
• Excellent English communication skills, both at a technical and executive level
• Experience running and responsible for teams with over 50 senior developers and QA
• Significant experience with desktop or mobile software development
• Ability to recruit, retain and develop top talent
• Excellent start up management and leadership skills
• Ability to aggressively focus and prioritize
• Strong creative problem solving capabilities
• Ability to translate business requirements into software requirements, and to deliver releases on agreed-upon schedule
• Strong software architecture skills
• Strong coding ability in Java
• Ability to create a culture and processes that foster rapid iteration and learning
• Familiarity with Lean Start up principles
• Up to date on latest technologies and best practices, and able to recognize strengths and weaknesses
• Exhibit strong strategic planning, departmental management, group motivation, imagination and diplomacy skills
• The person should be independent, a self-starter, a business developer, have a strong analytical background
