I've noticed my LJ follows a very strange pattern. I'll have a couple of really craptacular days where I'm bitchy and ranty, and then turn around and either go maniacally happy or just plain feel better, usually accompanied by a quiz or meme.
No meme this time, but I am happy. :) Here's why:
1) Last Sunday's crisis (which I posted about 2 posts ago) has more or less been resolved. To sum it up, a long-standing grudge someone's held against me came out in "one explosive temper-tantrum" (not my words), and now she feels better for having blown up. So while I still feel guilty for causing her to hold a grudge against me in the first place (which as usual, I was completely clueless about), I'm glad the explosion made her feel better. Now she and I are working on patching the rift, hopefully for real this time.
2) A little shallower, but still happy news: Fujin tells me that FFVII IS in fact being remade for the PS3, and that pre-orders are already being taken by E.B. Games and other respectable dealers. Insert fanboyish squee here! Note to self: START SAVING AGAIN. (BTW, Fujin, gomen for spoiling FFX)
3) I get today off! Jamie wanted to take me & Terry to the Castro Street Fair, and since I missed the Folsom Fair, I decided I'd catch this one. I love hanging out on Castro Street; it's got a great ambience. I head out there every time I have free time, and usually go out of my way to head through the area on my way home from Workfare at the bus yard.
4) Glen (my redneck stepdad) left for an army base in Texas yesterday. From there, he'll be shipping off to Iraq. He's an Army veteran from the Persian Gulf, so it's something of a personal issue for him. Mom's trying to play the supportive wife role, but she sounds more cheerful on the phone than I've heard her in a long time. I try to find nice things to say about him (he DID put up with me for two and a half years), but nothing comes to mind. And I mean NOTHING.
Now, I'm as against the war in Iraq as anyone else in this city. It's a waste of money and manpower that Dubya's doing because Hussein tweaked his daddy's nose, using terrorism as an excuse that's getting more tired by the year. But when it becomes a convenient way to get my ass of a stepfather out of my mother's hair...Well, you can understand if I'm not exactly marching on the streets with a picket sign.
Yep, I'm selfish. But y'know what? So're a lot of people, including the higher-ups who are running the country into the ground. At least, if the nation has to piss on cue, Mom'll get a little happiness out of the deal.
OK, enough politics...
5) My CD collection is about 1/3 of the way replenished! At least, the ones that were bought and not burned. A lot of really important stuff that vanished with my CD wallet has come back, thanks to the miracle of Amazon. I never realized how much I missed the last three tracks of the "Gladiator" soundtrack until they walked away.
