Theatre Arts Majors Have Their Guilty Pleasures Too.

I don't think I've ever met a person alive who didn't like Will Smith, even if he he had no opinion on him other than that.

Seriously.

I think the main reason is his bone structure, and the shape of his eyes. He always looks like he's smiling, that Will.

So it may not shock you to know that I did not hate "I Am Legend". In fact, I rather ( Read more... )

Ah Muse, why, oh why, do you torment me with perfection? montecristo March 21 2008, 17:29:32 UTC
It is entries like this one...ah, never mind. As I ceaselessly repeat to myself, it is my sin, not yours.

I've noticed that about Will Smith too, but I've never really explicitly and consciously thought about it. Thank you.

It does not shock me that you liked "I Am Legend". I knew you would. I have been a fan of Richard Matheson since I first saw "Omega Man," the preceding, entertaining but regrettably insufficent, 1971 take on this story by Hollywood, which starred Charleton Heston. Matheson's work is very popular with movie and television creators.

I can't see why Michael would "bat an eye" at your quirks -- they're very endearing.

It's a cheese-fest, and you're invited! montecristo March 21 2008, 18:17:49 UTC
Actually, The Omega Man (IMDb entry) was a rather entertaining bit of escapism. It wasn't helped that Hollywood really tried its damnedest to make it into a parable on class and race relations. Even so, the picture is a classic of Hollywood cheese. Heston is Heston -- he did no worse acting in Soylent Green, (IMDb entry) another classic chesse movie which actually featured the legendary Edward G. Robinson in a fun supporting role!

I loved the fact that you noticed Emma Thompson in "I Am Legend" and I think you would like her in Stranger Than Fiction (IMDb entry) as well. You would love that movie. It has Dustin Hoffman, Emma Thompson, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Queen Latifah in it. It's a pretty good and funny comedy.

By the way, why such a fierce aversion to Heston?

Because he is the worst actor of all time, maybe?

Yes. Are you infuckingsane? Shatner has a sense of humor about it, Heston doesn't.

UGH.

Well, you've got that right. Heston's sense of humor is decidedly his short suit.

One mans "vapid" is another man's "fun chick".

Or in this case one girl's vapid. I don't care about hatas. I like a good old fashioned zombie flick.

I love a good old-fashioned zombie flick too. What most people do not know, especially those who criticize "I Am Legend" as "another 'fast-zombie' flick", is that "I Am Legend," in its incarnation as "Omega Man" predates the movie that everyone thinks of as "the original zombie movie," Dawn of the Dead (IMDb entry), by seven whole years!
