Usually, I'm okay with Salon.com, given that many of their articles are good(particularly those of Glenn Greenwald), but fail on them for allowing an advice columnist to post
this tripe to a gay man who was sexually assaulted by someone he thought was a friend.
Speaking as a survivor myself, my first reaction wasn't to try to "understand" my attacker's needs or motivations. All I knew was that I'd been violated and that it was off to the hospital and report to the authorities and have that bastard's ass taken to jail. This is advice I'd recommend to a rape victim, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and whatnot, were I an advice columnist.
And that, my friends, is why rape culture and patriarchy is beneficial to no one.
