Character Sketch: Akim Mikhailachev
I did his parents already, so I felt it was only fair that Akim got some love too.
1) Akim spoils his granddaughter Yana rotten, especially as she will be his only grandchild. He had been calling her "Princess" from the time she was a baby.
2) Maiya detests Akim and thinks he's been nothing but trouble for her and her family. She just recently found out about Akim's plans to move her son and grandson out of her house to get away from her mother hen nature and it made her hate him all the more.
3) As a bisexual, Akim generally prefers men. He usually does not compliment a woman's looks unless she is really that drop dead gorgeous in his eyes (and he has some pretty high standards in that regard). Other than that, he is relatively indifferent to them.
4) Akim and Anton met each other in kindergarten and it was Akim who drove off the bullies that were picking on Anton for being half-Puerto Rican. The two have been inseparable since then, and once they hit puberty, they began to date each other.
5) Akim was quite close to his sister Kalina and was very sad to hear when she died of old age. He wasn't necessarily happy when Sergei told him that he has another sister named Sabina, but that was only because Sergei told him about 18 years after her birth that she existed. Nevertheless, he is eager to meet her.
6) Akim is a free spirit, which is why he allows his son Nestor and granddaughter Yana to call him by his first name. In spite of Maiya's claims that Akim was a terrible parent for being so permissive, Akim was anything but and ensured that his son understood and respected his authority as his father.
7) Akim doesn't mind that his father Sergei is now embracing his love of cross-dressing. In fact, he believes in the old adage "whatever floats your boat" and while he was surprised initially when he first saw Sergei in a dress, he now thinks his father looks good in a dress and even helps him pick out what would look best on him from time to time.
8) Akim is the "fem" in the relationship as far as his marriage to Anton is concerned. Some people have mistaken him to be gay because he does have a bit of a lisp and wears make-up.
9) Akim has just learned that his cousin Svetlana has died. Having grown up with her, he is saddened by this news as aside from Anton, she was his other best friend.
