I wish 2016 would kick out something to post about that isn't basically just a whine, but thus far it's failed to provide.

Elections? Pfft.

TV? Pfft again. I enjoyed Stranger Things, but the downside of binge-watching is it curtails all the fun speculating. Better Call Saul takes for freaking ever. Aside from that, I can't get into all the shows everyone else seems to love, so I've just been rewatching Lost and watching horror movies.

Speaking of which:
I was a huge fan of the original film. Scary movies set in the woods? Right up my alley as I love the outdoors and eerie places. I thought the original did a great job of capturing the spooky atmosphere and the increasing anxiety of being lost. Plus, if you were around at the time the hype around it along with the supplemental documentaries that laid out the mythology were cool. I even liked the first second one even though I totally get the hate. Imagine if S7 was about Buffy in the mental institution. Kinda like that.

This one, which I guess is a reboot after Book of Shadows, captures none of it. It's just a poorly paced tapestry of retcons and characters screaming each others names. There appears to be an entire act missing from it. Some comments and possibilities could be interesting if explored, but of course they aren't so in the end it just feels like they're just thrown in there like the root in Ashley's foot or the lights or the time loop. The twist at the end completely shoots the entire film in the foot.

Also? Woods aren't just woods. Vancouver's woods look nothing like Maryland's temperate broadleaf forests. I get they weren't allowed to film where the other movies did, but keep it in the eastern US at least. Atmosphere is important!

I've been thinking about reading fanfic, but apparently I am too stupid to figure out how A03 works. I don't like crossovers but there appears to be no way to filter them out. That's dumb. Or I am.
