I thought it would be a cool idea to rip the audio commentaries of the episodes for fans who only have access to the show via netflix (which doesn't have commentaries, I don't think?) but now I'm thinking it's not such a hot idea. It's been a struggle. I started it like 2 months ago and I don't think I want to listen to any more.
It's been awhile since I've listened to a lot of them and I've forgotten how strange some of them are. For example, I was just listening to Superstar and Jane is going on about how Riley is the right guy for Buffy in S4 because even though he's without strength, he supports her and isn't challenged by it and that's why he's the guy.
WTF.
It's just this episode where that's the case and everyone is acting weird in it. Much of Riley's arc is dedicated to him feeling overshadowed by her and feeling lesser because of it. There are quite a few instances where it really seems like what they say on the commentaries isn't coming through on the screen for me.
Also... I realize I have some issues on this one, but everyone licking the screen when Aly is on is annoying. Seriously. I think Joss fawns over AH's big eyes in Hush more than anyone commends Sarah, Nick or Tony in all the commentaries combined. Slight hyperbole, but not by much. Petrie spends more time announcing Blucas's acting chops than those guys get.
Maybe I'll get back to it soon, but I need a breather. Or maybe it's better left alone and Mutant Enemy benefit greatly from being dead authors. If they do release it on bluray, I hope they can get actors and directors to do the commentaries. Seth, Tom, Danny and those guys are the highlights.
