(no subject)

Did you hear about the After-Hours Gene? THIS EXPLAINS EVERYTHING. Actually, it doesn't -- the research subjects were mice, and all they really found out was that mice with this gene mutation have an odd circadian rhythm. But I expect that when the research broadens enough to involve humans, a whole bunch of us will be howling gleefully at the results.

Feeling randomly artistic? Try the Mondrian Randomizer and the Pollack Splatterer. Who has time to program these things??

In regards to Gridlock... now THERE was an EPISODE. Interesting situations, well-played by all concerned. Hilarious bit characters -- "American Gothic" and the little guy in the bowler cap... I wasn't impressed with the young panicky wives, but Brannigan was a real trooper. The part that really struck me was when the Doctor hugged the Novice because he'd just realized he knew her, before remembering that last time they met, she was a villain.

I bet (a) we haven't seen the last of the Face, who can turn up at any point in the timeline before his death, and (b) the Face will be revealed, somehow, to be the last and rather badly muffed regeneration of the Doctor. *headdesk* And AAAAH! MACRAAA!!!! Second-Doctor-era monsters for the win!!

And as for the two-parter, I'm still confused as to how the Cult of Skaro escaped being sucked into the void in Doomsday, but does this mean that the one who escaped -- Khan, was it? -- will turn out to be our old friend Rusty?? Ironic, after all his efforts to keep the Dalek race "pure". The dialogue was rather lackluster, and it's rather disturbing that Martha is already emotionally fixated on the Doctor but doesn't appear overly concerned about the suicidal streak that had him standing in front of the Daleks twice in this storyline and screaming at them to shoot. But the Doctor's conversations with Dalek Sec, his agony on the lightning rod, the conflict in his eyes when he offered the last Dalek amnesty, the sheer evil of the true form inside the casing, the terrifying battle scene with Daleks swooping over the peoples' heads, and the frankly classic mad science lab in the Empire State Building made these episodes worthwhile. The Doctor was so desperate to believe Sec, so determined to make the last remnants of Skaro a force for good.... I almost expected Sec to be manipulating him, as Daleks so often do, but the offer -- from a creature with Dalek genes! -- was an honest one, and that tugs at the heart almost as much as the Doctor's reaction to it.

*yaaaawn* Back to LSAT research..... at least I have my black hakama again.... yay for unlabeled boxes in the attic.
