No, seriously. I'm taking a class in cinema studies (Cinema and Sensation II: Sex) and I never realized exactly how much work goes into cinema analysis. Maybe it's because it's deceptively unintellectual - to sit and absorb information from a giant screen - that it's been made so complex! Linda Williams compares the hard core feature film to the Hollywood Musical. What she means is both genres alternate film between different types of materials: extended song and dance numbers alternate with scenes that carry the plot in Musicals. In porn feature films sex scenes alternate with scenes that carry plot. Make such a comparison yourself between a Musical and a Sex film, and offer a considered judgment about whether Williams' comparative suggestion makes sense.
