I just kicked out 3500 words tonight, more than I wrote all of August and September (I think. I don't actually keep track by month.)  I decided that I'm tired of working on the first draft of this damn thing, so I'm going to kick out the rest in record time.  I'm thinking 5000 words a day will get me done in under 3 weeks.  I currently stand at 62,000 words.  I estimate the completed length at 150,000.  Sigh.  Not even half way there yet.

I started reading Stephen King's On Writing a few days ago.  I love it so far.  Last night I read his advice on plotting: don't do it.  He said he usually likes to take a situation, a "what if" scenario, and drop his characters in it and then watch them try to work their way out.  I decided to do this with my current chapter, which is a flashback scene and in effect a short story unrelated to the rest of what I've written.

The result, I'm glad to say, was the most fun I've had writing that I can remember.  Probably since Nanowrimo last November when I wrote for the joy of it and not because I thought anyone would ever read the crap pouring out of my fingers.

At one point I sorta looked up in a daze completely unaware of how long I had been typing away without pause.  The images were finally flowing in my mind without being so labored.

Of course, I'm not saying any of it is good.  That's completely beside the point isn't it? :-)

So 1500 more words today.  Hopefully I can do that before 3 AM.  I don't want my schedule to get too wonky.  Just a little wonky is alright.  I'm going to jump ahead and start working on chapter 13, which continues the POV from chapter 6, which I just completed.

Also, I'm dieting.  Today's weight 168.8.  My goal is 155.  I want to snack while I write but I won't let myself.  I'm allowed one yummy drink (hot mulled cider, hot chocolate, coffee with lots of cream and sugar, etc) once an evening and that's it.  Yes, I'm a cruel task master.  Now back to work!

Edit:  It's now 3:01 AM.  My last hour consisted of editing the 3500 words I wrote today and rereading the previous version of the chapter I'm about to write.  (Surprisingly entertaining!)  I'm going to bed now.  Nothing wrong with shooting for 5000 words and landing at 3500.
