I got back from vacation yesterday. I went up to New Meadows, ID and picked up a friend and then drove to Seattle. All told it was about 36 hours of driving spread over 4 days. But there were a few non-driving days in there as well so that was nice. Most interesting development was coming out to my two friends, (both women) when they kept asking me who I was dating, etc. That on its own would have been nice, but one of them insisted in prying for more info and it started getting annoying. I don't like talking about personal stuff except to my best friends, and certainly not to women. It's just how I am. Eventually she let it drop when I wasn't forthcoming.
I've posted some pics on Facebook. I'd always wanted to see Seattle. I have to say that my impression was better than expected. I thought there would be more traffic congestion and more of an overwhelming urban feel, a la Atlanta. That wasn't the case. It's really a beautiful area. I have no idea where we went exactly. I seem to remember the name Point No Point where there was an old lighthouse and a secluded beach.
Probably my favorite part of the trip was the ferry ride. We parked on the ferry in a good location next to the rail, and I hung onto the rail for the whole trip. The air and sky and water were all amazing. It was one of those experiences where you could just be happy breathing and nothing else. It was sad to see how jaded the locals were. They all stayed in their cars, some going upstairs to the shops or whatever was up there. I didn't even go look. I was too busy wondering about elemental spirits living in the water.
One may wonder why someone who has been unemployed for over a year needs a vacation. I think it recharged me. I wrote again tonight, another 1100 words or so. You can't write a book full of the wonder of life if you aren't getting out of your house occasionally. I have to remember that.
In other news, my regular unemployment benefits ran out, but now I'm on the emergency unemployment benefits. The Census job is still in the works, but at least now it isn't desperate. These new UI benefits should last until I have that job, whenever it starts.
I'm heading to New Jersey for another cousin's wedding on November 12th. Then off to South Carolina for Christmas.
Currently wondering about Nanowrimo. You're supposed to write a new book, but maybe I'll use it to motivate myself to get ahead on my word count for this current book.
Need to go to bed now. It's 2am and I told a friend I'd take him to the airport at 7:30am tomorrow, which is in too damn soon from now.
