Author’s Note: This is the art for timehasa_way's spn_j2_bigbang Imaginary Friends, the third and final bigbang I illustrated this year! When I was reading this fic, I was absolutely blown away by how cinematic V's writing was. I could see everything that was happening shot for shot. The story grapples with what makes a person real and I played with that idea by having Jared fade in and out of the images. I really loved making this art and reading the story, which has some of the best character dynamics I've seen in a fic, and V was a delight to work with--so receptive to my ideas and collaborative in the feedback she gave. I really hope you like this art and please give the story a read!
Summary: When a strange monk shows up in Jensen's trailer during the filming of season nine, he and Misha learn that Jared isn't the person they thought he was. In fact, he may not be a person at all. According to the monk, Jared was created as a vessel to protect a Key that opens gates to other dimensions. The god seeking him out poses a threat not only to Jared, but to the world. Having just crossed over from friends to something more, Jensen struggles with the fact that his first five years of memories with Jared have been implanted in his brain and goes down a dark path. Misha struggles to keep them both safe and sane during the hiatus, also putting himself in harm's way as they hide out in motel rooms, Winchester-style.

I wanted to create an aesthetic with this artset that highlighted the strength of the fic's cinematic writing, so I decided to make a movie poster. Here you see Jared partially faded as well as our villain's contradictory sweet demeanor up against her more evil intentions. The purple/green clash represents the magical energies of Jared, green, and Joy's purple. I used a dashed font to play up the question of whether Jared is solid or not.
ANIMATED BANNER
Because the story had a movie feel to it, I liked the idea of creating an animated banner that sort of functions as a mini-movie, cycling through the major points of the fic in a way that doesn't spoil anything. I'm not entirely happy with how it turned out, but I'm learning, lol.
PART HEADERS
I'm probably most happy with how these turned out! These banners represent Jensen's journey through the story by taking the same moment and showing how Jared originally not being there and then slowly adding in changes him. You'll notice by "The End," Jensen has changed more than Jared--because he's happy now that Jared is with him. The second part has Jared being created from his energy form. I used the film reel filter to tie the pieces together and as another callback to the movie theme. And finally, because the story is based on a Buffy the Vampire Slayer arc, I used that font as a fun little easter egg. :D
DIVIDERS
This sigil plays quite a large part in the story...but no spoilers on why it's purple at one point and blood splattered at another. You'll have to read the fic to find out. ^___^
