I'm in D.C. right now. The stay and drive through the Carolinas was nice, if it weren't for the people I might want to live there. Virginia was really boring. Dad and I got through it by making up a new West Wing episode in which the senior staff gets kidnapped by hillbillies.
We got to D.C. yesterday and things didn't go well. D.C. is split into four quadrants (which I didn't really know) and some streets have the same names but are in different areas. The quadrants are also different sizes. Anyway, all of this meant we couldn't find our hotel for some time.
We did manage after a long and frustrating search, after buying a D.C. map. Even with a map it sucked because not all streets were labeled and some changed names. After we got to the hotel it was pretty late but we weren't going to drive to go get food so we decided to go to the metro. Unfortunately our hotel, while pretty close to the capital building and other touristy things, is not in the best part of town. I didn't want to walk back in the dark so we got take out. I thought I was going to get shanked. It was pretty miserable.
Today was much better. I went of a tour of George Washington University, which is pretty cool. And thankfully D.C. was much better by the light of day and I didn't worry so much about dying.
