Rainy day, Apocalypse Now, and a visit to Grandmas.

I didn't have work, so woke up around 11AM, but couldn't sit around for very long as I had to get flowers for my grandmothers birthday dinner at night.

For the past few weeks, a Florist from a fancy flower shop in midtown has been coming into my coffee shop and giving us absolutely beautiful flowers. Stuff like huge sunflowers with flecks of deep orange in the petals, or peonies that started as a tight red bulb only to burst out twice as large and fade into a pale pink. Anyway, we had been giving him free coffee for free flowers. He told us if anyone wanted flowers to come by the shop. I decided on a orchid, as its very similar to the official flower of Hong Kong, the city my Grandmother was born in.

As soon as I get down there is pouring rain, in that great summer way where everything just stops and you are forced to relax and just appreciate the summer moment. Water streaming down the sides of buildings, tricking through trees, and saturating the air with water and the smell of ozone.

Back in college it seemed like it was easier to have one of those "tucked away from the world" days. Its the heart and soul of a good rainy day in my eyes. Today was very much a day like that. I had been wanting to watch Apocalypse Now for a while now. Wanted to just get wrapped up in it. Almost taken out of time, and just relaxed in that feeling of having your daily tempo off set. As lately its been feeling too boring and predictable.

Took a break for some coffee and to figure out if/where I want to go on vacation this August. I know I really want to go some place exotic (even Europe), but realistically I may just go to Southern CA as my brother would pay for the ticket!

Anyway, all in all it was a nice day. Went to my grandmothers and had chinese food with her and my Uncle Havelock and talked as we listened to the rain fall outside.

Got home, after walking through the rain and finished Apocalypse Now. Exhaled the the last warm breaths of summer heat. As the city feels cooled down after a day of rain. But I bet it will be hot again tomorrow...
