holiday memories

Usually when she thought of the holidays, Cuddy didn’t first remember snow. Snow was a given, it happened whether it was time for Hanukkah festivities or not. In fact, the snow usually proceeded the holiday by about a month, at the very least. She had still loved it, still taken great, youthful joy in rolling about in the fresh, white powder before it stuck and became thicker slush, but the snow didn’t define the holidays.

It was the arrival of family, or the leaving home to go see them. Cuddy would bundle up - she was Lisa then, never Cuddy, but sometimes Li, Lise, whatever a doting relative chose for that particular moment - and join her family in greeting the others or pile into a car and make the long, chilled drive.

Always, it was worth it. For that sort of family togetherness, it was no big deal to drive a long distance or brave the cold to run out and embrace cousins, aunts, uncles, all at once. Everyone was so happy to be together, and that was what she remembered. How much it meant and how much it meant to her to be a part of it. Because whatever arguments or strife might have happened through the rest of the year, during that time they were all together, and everyone loved one another.

Nothing else seemed to matter.
