Jared was a year and a half old and full of energy and he was running Jess and Sam ragged. He had learned to walk and that was a bad thing as the little daredevil was all over the place. Sam joked that Jared got the hyperness from being around his Uncle Dean way too much. So when Christmas morning came around Sam and Jess were awoken by the happy squealing of their son as he found the presents under the tree. Sam wasn't really one for Christmas but he'd celebrate it for the sake of his son, just to see the joy in his eyes. He had groggily gotten out of bed and walked out looking to the bouncing little boy and smiled. He had to wonder if this was how his dad felt on Dean and his first Christmases. He ruffled his son's hair and looked to Jess who just smiled.
Sam moved over to the tree and sat down on the floor and began passing out the brightly colored wrapped gifts. He laughed as Jared tore right into them throwing shredded pieces of wrapping paper all around like confetti. He smiled and just enjoyed watching his son open his gifts, watching those brown eyes light up at each new gift. This was what his dad had always talked about. What he said he missed.
Sam and Jess had just made their first holiday memory with their son besides his first birthday. Sam was hoping for many more even if he couldn't shake that nagging feeling in the back of his mind that it might all be taken away.
