[ineffablefandom] dark hallways

The house was always best at night sometimes. His dad and Uncle Roger were gone and the young boy could rest easy for a few hours. There wasn't a sound not even Alice made noise as she stayed off to herself. Max was growing to dislike her more and more. Not after last night where she stood and watched as he got beaten. She didn't speak up, kept her silence which in the boy's eyes that looked to her for support and safety, was just as bad if she hit him herself. He plotted running away several times, but it was more then just a moody little boy that wanted to. No Max wanted to get away from the pain, the hurt he felt for something he had no control over. He wanted his mother but he never got to know her, she would have saved him. There were nights that he tried to dream his mom into being, hoping she'd come and scoop him up and take him away with her.

The house was dark and quiet, until Max heard the heavy staggered shuffling of boots. He held his breath and hoped they kept moving by his door as he tried making himself smaller then he was. His breath caught in his throat stopping as he heard the door creak open and saw his father standing there, hate burned in his eyes as he approached the bed. The taste of copper hit his mouth at the first blow as he made the mistake of trying to run. He was grabbed and slammed against the wall as the blows kept coming.

He was glad when his father left. He felt like he was going to throw up from the mix of pain and the taste of his own blood when he looked up he saw Alice. She looked at him and instead of coming to comfort him she closed the door and left him there. The house was silent through the dark hallways. Not even a cry or sob from the young boy, he knew better then to cry afterwards.
