Who are you?

That was the question which constantly haunted his mind, both in waking and in dreams. It echoed through his head in a voice so similar to his own yet...this voice had a purpose. He could simply tell that it did. The one speaking knew who he was, what he was destined to do and where his life would leave. They knew who they were and he was sure that he knew who this person was as well, the one he was created from.

Who was he?

He was Syaoran but then again he also wasn’t. He was merely a cloned body with a different heart and mind, a vessel which had lived in another’s place for the sake of someone else. Who did that make him though? He was neither that person nor was he someone different. He was someone stuck in between, something which shouldn’t exist, that was one thing that he was certain about.

Who?

Even if he was unsure of who he was he could still recall the words of that other one. The words telling him that he was someone different, a person on his own and not merely a copy, those were the words he clung to each day. He would absently wander through this space, not part of the living yet not part of the dead, and think to himself. He’d remember those words telling him to become someone new, he’d recall that touch from the other Syaoran as he fell apart in that place.

He’d made a sacrifice out of himself; did that make him who he was?

Ripples skipped across the surface below his feet, a voice calling out to him and telling him to come forward. A force soon began pulling him from this space and into another, not quite alive but certainly connected to that place. A familiar face and voice was telling him that he could choose what he did, pick out how his life went from now on.

Who?

Syaoran could see them, the two he was so similar to and yet so different. Absently he nodded to himself.  That was who he was. He was someone like them yet not one of them, a being with a similar face yet free from the same bonds and tasks. He would be one who had his own purpose in this plan, no longer a mere pawn but now a player in this game.

Who was he?

He was Syaoran. One who had lived and died for the sake of helping the future. He would be the one to stand by the other’s side from the shadows, help from the other side. That was who he truly was.
