Musicals in Sickness and in Health

Yesterday I did watch the movie 1776, which I went back and forth on. It was really interesting although a little silly and I do love the music but it was extremely long (nearly three hours with very little action and even the songs were few and far between) but from what Ive read online, its a pretty good representation of the stage show and alot of the annoyances I had with it seem to have sprung directly from the authors trying to accurately represent the fouding fathers so I thought that was neat.

I also had a bit of a jaunt in the music room with suggestions from Mr. Langely. I took in Forty-five Minutes from Broadway (1906), which I adored. It was so much of what I love in a musical cast recording having preserved all of the dialogue as well so I could experience the whole show in some kindof radio play mode. I really think more modern shows should do the same. Then I tried out Purcell's King Arthur, which I liked but I couldnt realyl understand the lyrics just as when I try to listen to opera (...in Italian or otherwise) so Im going to have to read the libretto I suppose.

Back entries I forgot to post:

I watched the musical film, Little Shop of Horrors today and found it fun but a little trite. I couldnt tell if it took itself seriously or not, really, but it was very much classic musical comedy. 3Stars

I have taken in Shenandoah another war-related musical cast recording that suprised me in how much I enjoyed it. I really must track down a copy of Wildhorn's The Civil War.
