Like the other Rodgers & Hammerstein's works Ive listened to, I did not particularly like this. Most of them have at least been annoyingly catchy, though, and really I found myself completely devoid of strong feelings either way for The King & I. The Asian theme link is somewhat compelling, but mostly I just didnt care.
The Secret Garden is a different story, however. I found the music style to be tantilizingly reminiscent of such works as Jane Eyre and Phantom of the Opera and the familiar plot was perfectly served by the musical format I thought. I appreciated that the cast recording included the dramatic interludes. It definetly enhanced the listening experience.
