I am a consummate fan of shonen-formula (and its umbrella formula, coming of age stories) and Bleach is very, very shonen-formula. The plot is pretty formula, though it pulls in some betrayal and intrigue (uhh, once you get to the plot anyways, it takes awhile, though in my book that is not always a weakness), but the reasons I love it are

Ahoy there! I suppose we have a huge disagreement here. I'm not really a fan of Kubo Tite's art style - it's far too... artificial, designed in a way that makes everything seem grander than it is. Some of the charcters are strethed (I mean, Ichigo is freakin' tall for a 15/16 year old, isn't he? And Zaraki's a practically a giant) so far! And Rukia is just a tiny midget, with a severe case of achondroplasia. She really needs some help from Unohana - her pituitary gland must have suffered some severe damage. Plus, those huge, sparkly anime eyes are jsut not my thing... (Rukia's eyes take up more than half her face most of the time!) Kubo's style is meant to make everything appear more dramatic, when in reality, there's no drama at all and the consequent events just drag on and on

I think I'm going to love Saikano to itty bitty bits! I just Love tragedy even though I suck at writing the damn genre myself. And if your words are any indication, then damn, I'd say the tragedy part was well done, right

*happy sigh* Hello! Hello! *waves* I just wanted to say that I'm reading NANA now and I'm loving it! I mean, I seriously loving and I love you! No joke.XDD
The first page really grabbed my attention - and the narrative reminded me of the word 'average' and I instantly knew that I was going to love this manga! Thanks for reccing this!
I don't think I'll be getting into Detective Conan (yeah, reading over 600 chapters sounds tedious) anytime soon - and Aumanga Daioh sounds promising, so does Otogizoushi... but I'll stick to NANA for now. ANd Naruto - seriously, why won't Danzou just die? (I think Kishi's losing his touch and becoming predictable... that Itachi was-- um, rather not spoil it for you if you haven't read the latest chapter!)
