YES, the tragedy in Saikano was very well handled. I have not much else to say (that is not a spoiler) other than: <3333

Otogizoushi is... hmm. The first part is heavy on the samurai-culture, Heian-era Japan history, and really draws on Japanese mythology. The second part heavily draws on Japanese mythology. It's definitely one of my favorites.
'Nakama' is a pretty frequently-used word in anime-culture, which in Japanese can mean something as simple as "friends", but probably more closely translates to "comrades". Umm, like for Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura would be his nakama.

NANA is beautiful and hilarious and wonderful. Nana is one kickass lady, and Hachi (the other Nana) is wondrously sweet, if naive. I think that you will like it.

Well, the main character of Detective Conan is around 16-17, as are several other characters. However, (since the main premise is that the main character is turned into a kid), you also have his kid classmates (around 6-7 years), as well as the adult detective and police characters (anywhere from late twenties to early fifties). I'd say that there are plenty of characters who are relateable. The only advice I can give you is give it a try, and if you like it, then good! If not, that's cool too.

I think Azumanga comes from the author's name (Kiyohiko Azuma). The Daioh part translates into "Great King".

*happy sigh* Hello! Hello! *waves* I just wanted to say that I'm reading NANA now and I'm loving it! I mean, I seriously loving and I love you! No joke.XDD

The first page really grabbed my attention - and the narrative reminded me of the word 'average' and I instantly knew that I was going to love this manga! Thanks for reccing this!

I don't think I'll be getting into Detective Conan (yeah, reading over 600 chapters sounds tedious) anytime soon - and Aumanga Daioh sounds promising, so does Otogizoushi... but I'll stick to NANA for now. ANd Naruto - seriously, why won't Danzou just die? (I think Kishi's losing his touch and becoming predictable... that Itachi was-- um, rather not spoil it for you if you haven't read the latest chapter!)
