A friend who is now a pilot, was, at the time, a flight officer for a major US carrier.
Standing at the front of the cabin during boarding greeting passengers as they got on. Doors are closed, flight attendants are going through pre-flight cabin check as the plane is pushed onto the taxiway.
Flight attendant approaches Michael and says "You need to go talk to the lady in seat 36B. She got on the plane with a baby, now she doesn't have one!"
Michael wanders back and greets the woman in her seat:
"Ma'am I'm flight officer Michael Xyz, I'd just like to welcome you on board. I did have a question though, I saw that you had a baby with you when you boarded the flight. Where is the infant now?"
"Oh!" she says "I put him up above in the child carrier." and points, of course, to the overhead luggage compartment.
One wonders what she thought when she saw everyone else in the cabin shoving carry on luggage in the "child carrier".
Wow. Just...wow.
