some things

- Spanish language movies are just better than American ones. I saw Los secretos de sus ojos today and have since decided that everything Pedro Almodóvar or Juan José Campanella directs is flawless. I want to watch Los abrazos rotos again! A lot of American movies feel the need to interrupt conversations every thirty seconds with a witty comment or a scene change, while the Spanish ones are really good at conveying meaning and depth in the quiet, awkward, tense moments, if that makes any sense. The opening scene of Inglourious Basterds is a good example of it in a mainstream movie.

(also actors / actresses tend to be chosen more for acting ability than physical attractiveness, imho, which is not a bad thing)

- Got housing and class info from KCP. I'm scared out of my wits just looking at the schedule aughgh. knowing me I'm going to get lost and break down in the terminal. 50 minute commute to a 9AM class will be... interesting. especially with major jetlag.

- back to flapper haircut! and yesterday I wore a two-piece swimsuit for the first time in my life. spent half the time at the pool terrified that it would fall off every time I went down the slide haha :p

- work resumes tomorrow. Last week I finally got trained at the vetmed library, which means once a week I will get paid to ride a bus around for an hour. there are worse ways to earn one's coke fund. This girl named Janet was supposed to train me, but since it was pretty easy we mostly just talked for two hours while I photocopied some 92-page monstrosity. she told me all about her muslim boyfriend who her grandma hates and shared her thoughts on the differences between urbana and champaign (urban planning majors what can I say). fun fun. I don't talk to my coworkers much except for ruth and adrienne (and kori when I fuck up and need her to cover for me) so making friends with a new one was good.

this was kind of a random post.
