An Early Christmas!

Dec 16, 2005 08:36

Today, well yesterday now, my parents presented me with an iPod fifth gen! The 30 gig, with video playback capabilities! I total love it. I've been messing around with it since I got it... I've nearly gone though an entire charge of the battery too... It's so small! It's hard to describe, but it's halfway between an index card (3x5) and a credit card. It's also a lot thinner and lighter than I expected!

My parents got it at Meijer, so they didn't get the engraving nor an iPod case (accept for the shitty one that it comes with... A grey sleeve, that is annoying. I'll be posting some pics of it (as I opened the box)

iPod Photos!

The iPod Wrapper... I ripped this off before thinking about taking the photos... Oopps.

What the tag actually says... Notice the outrageously "apple pricetag" of $299.97 -- but it was worth it (I was going to buy myself the 60 gig one if I didn't get one or the other for Christmas).

Za Box, with imbedded U2 advertisement. ^_^ I was hoping for LOST, but U2 is spiffy too.

Whoa... A box inside a box. This one was a fold out, but I didn't quite expect to find a black box within a black box.

The notorious iPod. "Don't steal music!"

Most of the crap that came with the iPod (iPod, earbuds, software cd, and USB connector). Not photoed are the earbud covers, the little station thing (which is just a pointless piece of plastic), the apple stickers (2x), and the documentation that came with the pod. The earbuds, earbud covers, and USB cable each came in what seemed to be hermetically sealed packages... It almost looked like something you would see in a clean room or doctors office.

The iPod main screeen. w00t! Gigs and gigs of music await the pressing of a single button!

And look at the extras! Video games! Only simple ones, but that's okay. There's also solitaire, parachutes, and (my favorite) Music Quiz (guess the song).

Some of the little annoying things that I've encounters with my iPod so far (all the fault of using Linux instead of Mac OS or Windows to manage the iPod) are:
  • I can't use amaroK (for some reason) to manage my iPod. (this may be fixed, I'll have to try transfering a song later)
  • Ejecting is annoying. I have to use the command line to execte command: eject -s /dev/sdb1 to get it to eject properly. And I don't even think the usual, eject -s iPod worked. Grrr.
  • After much searching, I can't seem to find a decent 5th generation case! I'm going to Toledo tomorrow (for multiple reasons, but one of which is for an iPod case)
  • The earbuds heart my ears!
But those are obviously minor issues that I've been having. And, worse case scenario, I can always use one of my Windows machines to manage the iPod though iTunes. Today, I used gtkpod to upload my songs (which it had to create some directories and add some files necessary for the "first time" upload of songs to the iPod, which is why I think that amaroK couldn't work the iPod).

Side Notes!
LJ Update
LJ just added an additional three icons to free accounts (for a total of six) - Apple, Windows, SUSE and iPod are my additions! Those are my usual topics of conversation. Although, I'm thinking about replacing the "Apple" one with something more related to college.

amaroK and Amazon - grrrr
I'm so annoyed by Amazon and amaroK right now... I started up amaroK this morning to be greeted with a nice little message from amaroK that said that is summerized by:
The covers that you have downloaded 90 days (or more) ago have been deleted. This is because of Amazon's license policy.

Why was I not informed of this before? And why is it setup this way, I may never know. It is quite annoying to suddenly get this message though. Especially since I spent so much time configuring my songs to have all the right tags so I could easily get all the right album covers. Grrr. I'm really disappointed in Amazon and amaroK over this one.

Trip to T-Town
I'm heading off with my parents, brother, and his finance to Toledo tomorrow... For some reason, my parents want to buy my brother clothes, so we're making a "family day" out of it all, after buying my brother some clothes, we are going to head to Outback Steakhouse (which I know I'll enjoy, but I also kind of want to go to The Olive Garden) - but that'll have to wait to another time.

Christmas party blues
I'm supposed to attend a Christmas party up in Howell, Michigan (90 minute - interstate, 2 hour - highway drive) on Saturday evening - the party starts at 5pm. I'm really not looking forward to the drive, and my dad has been really hounding me to not go or get a ride to go there... Especially since no one is going to be riding along with me... it'll be me solo the entire way, in nasty Michigan-winter road conditions. If the weather is bad that day, I won't go, but it doesn't look like it'll be bad at all, so if I go, my dad will drive ahead of me and I'll follow him. Once I'm there though, he'll head back to Adrian and I'll stay at the party.

Once the party is over, I'll either have the option of staying the night there and leaving in the morning, or leaving as soon as the party is over. I'm not sure which I'll do, but I'm not looking forward to my trip home alone.
