Not long after I got up this afternoon (I ended up staying - up late last night working with SuSE - damn automount crap) I decided to go on a bike ride. What got me interested was that I was watching an episode of Law and Order and the detectives just happened to visit a bike shop to talk to some guy. Just looking at all those sweet bikes made me want to go out for a ride. And that's exactly what I did... Just as I was beginning to recover from the soreness of assembling my PC.
I ended up making a short ride, which was probably best, since I haven't done any riding in over a month. At first, I wasn't sure where I was going to go - but do to some light traffic, and some random choices, I ended up going to two parks - first, Riverside and then Twin Ponds. The ride was really nice.
I did notice something odd - I when I got close to my first local (Riverside), I noticed that there was this guy walking his bike. I figured that he must have got tired and decided to walk his bike home. But, I kept running into him... He never went into Riverside park, but I did. When I came out of the park and over to the baseball parking lot, he was still there - walking his bike. I stopped at an overlook near the stands for a few minutes and then turned around to head up the trail to Twin Ponds. By the time I got onto the train between the ponds, there was that guy again! This time I found out why he was walking his bike... His chain was off. And as I got closer, I also found out that his back tire was bent all to hell. He didn't look hurt at all - so I just let him be. I felt bad for him though, especially with me running into him at every turn.
The random route that I took was actually fairly intense - up hills and over various terrain (stone, grass, pavement, up hill, and down) so I think I got a decent workout today - and it was absolutely beautiful out today. I wasn't actually out all that long - just over half an hour... But the trip was delightful anyway. It had rained earlier in the day, and was a cool 22 C (mid 70s F) outside when I went. There was a lot of clouds though, so I didn't think much of it, but it's a good thing that I didn't stay out very long, it wasn't more than an hour after I got back when it started to rain; not hard - just enough to paint the pavement.
Ahh, but it was a nice little trip. I'm glad I went.
