This evening, I found Louie --dead. He seemed to have gotten stuck between the side of the tank and the air pump.
Friday morning, I forgot to give the fish their morning feeding; but, I did remember the evening before and after, and both fish seemed fine. I did think that Louie looked a little listless compared to his usual energetic self. Saturday morning I noticed him in the artificial rock, just floating there... it seems that he didn't want to come out for his breakfast on Saturday, but since Shadow cannot eat the shrimp that I feed to Louie, I didn't worry about it. That evening, I didn't see Louie in the tank, but it's not uncommon for either fish to just be out of sight when I feed them, and the same was true for this morning (Sunday). When the same was true for this evening, I decided to give the take a good look over to see if I could find him, and that's when I saw him seemingly stuck behind the air pump.
This makes Shadow's "kill total" three plus one injury. I'm getting quite frustrated with the fish that "mysteriously" die while in Shadow's tank... It's really quite creepy. First there was Hikari (光) - death, seemingly by starvation --Shadow would never let him get to the surface to eat, and oddly enough, they were the same type of fish. Second, there was Pascal, an aggressive betta, that was injured while in Shadow's tank, and removed for medical reasons. He is the only tank-mate of Shadow that is still alive... However, Pascal was only in the tank with Shadow for a week. Then, there was Spartan... My shortest lived fish, dieing after only a week from massive injury to his right side, which is difficult to explain. And finally, Louie, death by mysterious circumstance.
~sigh... and I've also got a molly (a friendly, non-combatant fish)waiting for me at Andrew's apartment, but I'm hesitant to put him in with Shadow-- after how many other fish have died in his presence. Maybe Shadow is just really aggressive, and I should put something really wild in there, like an Oscar ~sigh, but that would really put Shadow at risk, especially if these deaths are just coincidence. Oiii, I just don't know what to do anymore. I guess it'll just be Shadow in that tank for a good long time, that seems to be the safest bet.
