I assume people know this but on the safe side I'll repeat it: I'm now a college student recently enrolled to FGCU in Southwest Florida.
Currently I'm a Psychology major on record, but as I probably stated earlier I'm considering in switching over to History (Sociology minor; although I'll still take experimental psychology, social psychology, and environmental psychology).
Why? Well, the grad school (New School for Social Research) I plan to go to can give you a dual Ph.D on History and Sociology. My academic interests are these: Social Psychology, History, and Sociology. If I get a Ph.D in Sociology I could still get a chance to do Social Psychological research (I hope I can do it both sociological and psychological social psychology), which is the field of psychology I'm most interested in.
Another reason is that if I have to work between my graduation to my future enrollment to grad school (or, in the worst case, probably irrational, scenario, it becomes "impossible" for me to go to grad school) I would happily work in teaching History in high school (personally, I would like to teach in international schools abroad).
FInally, in terms of class material, History has more interesting classes.
Well, my classes seem on average to be all ok. I've meet a few people yet haven't made friends exactly (thus I feel a little lonely, however I know this situation is very likley to change), etc. However, not much really took place in the 1st week except settleling in somewhat.
I do have "homework" to do for next month though.
The best news I heard this week is that my friend Juan, from Puerto Rico, has recently been admitted to Full Sail. So, he might move to Florida (around October). Actually, I'll write his inspirational story (lol): Juan was already fed up with being in PR and, besides Nintendo XD on the Xbox, had somewhat lost contact with his other friends (especially the ones in Carvin) except me (who even when I left large distances; when I return I still hanged out with him. The others always lived relatively near!). So, when he went to college in PR he percieved that it was the same shit as in high school ("except harder to slack") so he dropped out. He then awaited to see if Full Sail accepted him and they did. The End.
No really, it's quite inspirational. I'm not sure if I have the balls to do what he did.
The biggest highlight of the week was the club fair on Wednesday. I signed up for many groups, yet the one I look forward to partake is the Progressive Student Alliance (it's the most "left" group in college; which isn't much I suppose. However, they do some activism; I think.).
Maybe in the future I could start my own club (Start an SDS or a Secular Student Alliance!)...hmm.
Anya might also enroll in FGCU in the future (next semester? next year?)...the only thing I have to say is that will be the only anarchists here. lol
I actually had doubts about the college's area but after seeing many parts of Florida...Southwest Florida doesn't seem so bad.
