Last year around this time I made a list of goals I wanted to accomplish in 2009. It was not my favorite year and I will be happy to rid it goodbye and good riddance. That being said, it was a very interesting year. My Grandpa died in March, Fargo had the worst flood known to mankind right when my grandpa died, my mom and grandma came out to visit me and we had a fabulous time, my nine-year stint at a job that was making me incredibly unhappy ended, I volunteered A Lot, I found New Things, I explored, and I did my best to stay sane.
So, yeah parts of the year were really crappy but other parts were really good. Here is the list I made last year with my comments:
1. Compete in another triathlon (done!)
2. Do one new thing each week (Um...)
3. Become a better runner (I ran but I'm not sure how much better I got)
4. Do the same things I always do to enrich my life (Done!)
5. Take risks (Sorta. I need to take more)
6. Seek out new music, books, and interesting people (Done!)
7. Support the arts more either by attending events or volunteering if I can't afford to go. (Done!)
8. Read 50 books (Done! List will follow in a separate post)
9. Learn how to knit in the round better and learn intarsia (Nope)
10. Practice mindfulness and awareness. (I did it when I could remember to do it. I need to work on this.
Next year I will do much of the same. Here is my list:
1. Exercise every day. Even if it's just for 30 minutes. Participate in two races this year.
2. Create something fabulous every day. A short story, a card, a photograph.
3. Read 50 books
4. Be kinder to myself
5. Volunteer
6. Ask for help when I need it
It's a smaller list but it's more focused and I like it. I'm going to print it out and put it on my bulletin board above my desk.
So, good riddance to the Aughts and let's hope the next decade is more prosperous and healthy for everyone!
