spam calls part 2

Jun 28, 2018 15:47

The spam calls have been getting worse (previous entry). A lot worse. I thought I could just wait it out. Bear the annoyance.

Remember last year it averaged 4 calls a week. Now it is more. Two weeks ago it was 52 spam calls in a week. Last week it was 38 spam calls in a week. Monday.... Monday it was 49 spam calls in a single day. In. A. Single. Day.

That last point in the graph? That is the one spam call on Sunday plus Monday's spam calls & texts. All other points on the graph represent an entire week of data. That last point represents 2 days.

That is it. I cannot take this any more. I cannot live with my cell phone under these circumstances. I started researching android phone apps to block spam.

My first choice was Mr Number. It claimed in the advertising
  • Option to block neighborhood spoofing. This is for numbers that start with the same 6 digits as my number. I get a lot of these spam calls.
  • Option to block all numbers that are not in my phone book.
I installed the app on my android phone and discovered... they lied. Neither of these options were available to me. I gave them 24+ hours and to be fair my spam calls/texts on Tuesday were only 2. And Wednesday were 5. Clearly an improvement, but still not acceptable. With a friend's help last night, I went looking for other options.

I installed the android app Should I Answer? It has a LOT of optional choices. And one of them was "block all numbers that are not in my phone book." I turned that on immediately. Today I have gotten zero spam texts and phone calls on my phone. Since I have Google Fi, if my personal computer is on, I can hear it ringing with spam calls but at least that is Much Better.

So if you want to call me, let me know the number in advance.
