email recs?

I have just about had it with Hotmail... I hate the new interface, and now it's gone and deleted a whole bunch of unread, new messages from my inbox!! Am probably going to set up a Gmail account. Any comments on Gmail, pro or con, before I go and change all my email notifications and affiliations? (I already have a Yahoo account - it's okay, but I don't love the interface either.)

Or, if you have another free e-mail service you like, go ahead, pitch it to me. :0)
