28...Mind Hunters...(dvd) A fast-paced thriller that has intricate details and is interesting how it unfolds. A team of FBI agants go to a secluded island 50 miles off shore for a weekend training exercise. But one of the team is actually a serial killer who learned from the best--other FBI agents, now they get to put their skills to the ultimate test- can her/his colleagues guess who it is before someone else gets killed? This is a modern-day who-dun-it... and I loved it. 4/5

29... Tim Burton's Corpse Bride... (dvd) I'd seen this great film 2 1/2 times in the theater and since I'm a big Tim Burton fan and very appreciative of this stop motion film, of course I wanted to see it again. It was Oscar nominated, but didn't win. I don't think the Academy really appreciates Tim Burton. Now I have it on dvd, so I can watch it again & again, but this is the first time this year, so far (2006) that I've seen it, hence me actually counting it in my 50filmchallenge list.
I appreciate how "Up There" is grey and dreadful and the dead are lively with full color. The Butterflies are a very pretty touch. And the spiders aren't creepy but cool & motherly. I like how the piano keys were old & worn (bare wood) on the piano song duet. I did notice the animation add-ins ::: the flames and reflection in the water (tears). The huge eyes were another good detail. The Voice of Pastor Galswell sounded like Ian McKellon (Gandalf) but is actually Christopher Lee. Another EXCELLENT film by Tim Burton & crew. 5/5

30... V for Vendetta... The Wachowski Brothers are at it again... and although their writing is swift and a masked-Hugo Weaving delivers his razor-tongued lines flawlessly, I still feel their fingerprints on this film, so their style hasn't changed much since the Matrix Trilogy.

In a politically unbalanced Britain in the future (circa year 2020), V, a vigilante with a vengence comes forth to bring about a change, but does so in an unconventional way. Natalie Portman also delivers a brilliantly delicate role as she becomes captive to V. But she is compassionate to his ways, for she watched her own parents suffer from the political bullies he despises.

There are many similarities between the politicos in the film to our real current-day fuhrer(s). The Christian Conservatives, A Holy War, Patriotism, information the news press receives/reports and doesn't receive/report. Those are just the blatant ones. I actually felt angry after watching this film, due to the realities of what the government is doing, yeah, they're governing, all right. Fahrenheit 9/11 helped reveal some of these atrocities in a documentary format, this film (supposedly, because it is based upon the comic book series) presents it in a fictional concept.

The action and story and character development are great in this film. 5/5

31... Run Lola Run... (dvd) Another fast-paced film, if you haven't seen it--- you MUST see this!!! It's a race against the clock, and the time is twenty mintues before noon. Lola needs to meet her boyfriend at noon, or he may need to take a desparate measure. In that 20 minutes, slight actions and delays alter the 12-noon occurrances, and we see how these are played out in three different possibilities, from three different perspectives. In German (english subtitles) KOOL FILM!!! 4/5

32... Nosferatu the Vampyre... (1979, dvd) A dark story retelling Bram Stoker's Dracula. A very vivid, photographic-styled film about the well-known vampire seeking to continue his dark reign. The story is kinda dull, the imagery is definatly not dull!!! This 1979 version has dialog in German (english subtitles); but I want to watch the silent 1929 version. 3/5

33...Drop Dead Gorgeous... (dvd) a comedy about a small town who has a beauty pagent, but the drama and antics of a comical Minnesota community have it pretty botched. But the contestants continue rehearsing, even though some very suspicious accidents are happening. 3/5
