I like getting up early these days - more sunlight - and I am so happy I did not sleep in today! This also sets me up for a lovely nap in the afternoon, should I be called upon this evening to attend a concert

My first memory of Rome is after flying in and getting to (insert name of Central tain station here), and whilst waiting, ahaving 2 silky macchiatos acoss the street. That's the difference with coffee for me in Italy - the silkiness. I know they say it's b/c of the milk used.
I now have moved recently to starting the day from either coffee (flat white) or tea (green), to simply having hot water. I always drink lots of hot water, but it's a brilliant, cleansing start to day. Maybe too boring for most.
Why can't I see text when I type in a comment here? It's v bizarre.
as i think you've probably read in this blog, the first thing i do in rome is have marco pick me up and he drives us to a cafe overlooking the colosseum and i have my latte macchiato and it really is silky. that is the perfect word.
What I don't 'get' with Italian coffee culture - that it is so often a vertical drink, and the brevity of the experience (as far sthe coffee consumption). Shooting/guzzling it down. I like to linger.
Coffee is made and consumed by the sip. Coffee loses its best qualities if it is not consumed immediately. Stay, hang out, enjoy life for a while, but when you want another sip, order it and you will get another perfect sip. No need or desire for Ventes or talls. It's all about sips.
Now this makes perfect sense to me. I find one of my challenges with coffee is it is only ever the right temperate for about 30 seconds after I get it.
The frequency of vertical coffee drinking still surprised me though.
